"But whenhis heartwas liftedup and his spiritbecameso proudthat he behavedarrogantly,he was deposedfrom his royalthroneand [his] glorywas takenawayfrom him.
However, they did not listen,but stiffenedtheir necklike their fathers,whodid not believein the LORDtheir God.
But Hezekiahgavenoreturnfor the benefithe received,becausehis heartwas proud;therefore wrathcameon him and on Judahand Jerusalem.
He alsorebelledagainst KingNebuchadnezzarwhohad made him swear[allegiance] by God.But he stiffenedhis neckand hardenedhis heartagainstturningto the LORDGodof Israel.
"NowI knowthat the LORDis greaterthanallthe gods;indeed,it was provenwhenthey dealtproudlyagainstthe people."
"Stillyou exaltyourself against My peopleby not lettingthem go.
Pharaohsent,and behold,there was not evenoneof the livestockof Israeldead.But the heartof Pharaohwas hardened,and he did not letthe peoplego.
Pride[goes] beforedestruction,And a haughtyspiritbeforestumbling.
Everyonewho is proudin heartis an abominationto the LORD;Assuredly,he will not be unpunished.
"Comedownand sitin the dust,O virgindaughterof Babylon;Siton the groundwithouta throne,O daughterof the Chaldeans!For you shall nolongerbe calledtenderand delicate.
Sayto the kingand the queenmother,"Takea lowlyseat,For your beautifulcrownHas comedownfrom your head."
"Thussaysthe LORDof hosts,the Godof Israel,'Behold,I am about to bringon thiscityand allits townsthe entirecalamitythat I have declaredagainstit, becausethey have stiffenedtheir necksso as not to heedMy words.'"
"Comedownfrom your gloryAnd siton the parchedground,O daughterdwellingin Dibon,For the destroyerof Moabhas comeup against you, He has ruinedyour strongholds.
Thussaysthe LORD,"Indeed, those who supportEgyptwill fallAnd the prideof her powerwill comedown;From Migdol[to] SyeneThey will fallwithin her by the sword,"Declaresthe LordGOD.
Thereforethussaysthe LordGOD,"Becauseit is highin statureand has setits topamongthe clouds,and its heartis haughtyin its loftiness,
"Then the kingwill doas he pleases,and he will exaltand magnifyhimself aboveeverygodand will speakmonstrousthingsagainstthe Godof gods;and he will prosperuntilthe indignationis finished,for that which is decreedwill be done.
And in that it was commandedto leavethe stumpwith the rootsof the tree,your kingdomwill be assuredto you afteryou recognizethat [it is] Heaven[that] rules.
"All[this] happenedto Nebuchadnezzarthe king.
"NowI, Nebuchadnezzar,praise,exaltand honorthe Kingof heaven,for allHis worksare true and His waysjust,and He is ableto humblethose whowalkin pride."
Then the malegoatmagnified[himself] exceedingly.But as soon as he was mighty,the largehornwas broken;and in its placethere cameup fourconspicuous[horns] toward the fourwindsof heaven.
"I tellyou, this manwentto his housejustifiedrather thanthe other;for everyonewho exaltshimselfwill be humbled,but he who humbleshimselfwill be exalted."
But encourageone anotherdayafterday,as longas it is [still] called"Today,"sothat noneof you will be hardenedby the deceitfulnessof sin.
"Whythen do you hardenyour heartsas the Egyptiansand Pharaohhardenedtheir hearts?WhenHe had severelydealtwith them, did they not allow the people to go,and they departed?
