Then the citywas brokeninto, and allthe menof war[fled] by nightby wayof the gatebetweenthe two wallsbesidethe king'sgarden,though the Chaldeanswere allaroundthe city.And they wentby wayof the Arabah.
But the armyof the Chaldeanspursuedthe kingand overtookhim in the plainsof Jerichoand allhis armywas scatteredfrom him.
And he tookcourageand rebuiltallthe wallthat had been brokendownand erectedtowerson it, and [built] anotheroutsidewalland strengthenedthe Millo[in] the cityof David,and madeweaponsand shieldsin greatnumber.
Shallumthe sonof Col-hozeh,the officialof the districtof Mizpah,repairedthe FountainGate.He builtit, coveredit and hungits doorswith its boltsand its bars,and the wallof the Poolof Shelahat the king'sgardenas faras the stepsthat descendfrom the cityof David.
And you madea reservoirbetweenthe twowallsFor the watersof the oldpool.But you did not dependon Him who madeit, Nordid you takeinto considerationHim who plannedit longago.
Allyour rulershave fledtogether,[And] have been capturedwithoutthe bow;Allof you who were foundwere takencaptivetogether,Though they had fledfaraway.
and Zedekiahkingof Judahwill not escapeout of the handof the Chaldeans,but he will surelybe giveninto the handof the kingof Babylon,and he will speakwith him faceto faceand seehim eyeto eye;
You will not escapefrom his hand,for you will surelybe capturedand deliveredinto his hand;and you will seethe kingof Babyloneyeto eye,and he will speakwith you faceto face,and you will goto Babylon.'"'
But ifyou will not goout to the officersof the kingof Babylon,then thiscitywill be givenover to the handof the Chaldeans;and they will burnit with fire,and you yourselfwill not escapefrom their hand.'"
Like watchmenof a fieldthey are againsther roundabout,Becauseshe has rebelledagainst Me,' declaresthe LORD.
At the soundof the horsemanand bowmaneverycityflees;They gointo the thicketsand climbamong the rocks;Everycityis forsaken,And nomandwellsin them.
"Thussaysthe LORD,'Behold,I am going to giveover PharaohHophrakingof Egyptto the handof his enemies,to the handof those who seekhis life,justas I gaveover Zedekiahkingof Judahto the handof Nebuchadnezzarkingof Babylon,[who was] his enemyand was seekinghis life.'"
"Goup through her vinerowsand destroy,But do not executea completedestruction;Stripawayher branches,For they are not the LORD'S.
Judahhas goneinto exileunderafflictionAnd underharshservitude;She dwellsamong the nations,[But] she has foundnorest;Allher pursuershave overtakenher In the midstof distress.
Allher majestyHas departedfrom the daughterof Zion;Her princeshave becomelike deerThat have foundnopasture;And they have fledwithoutstrengthBeforethe pursuer.
"The princewhois amongthem will load[his baggage] on [his] shoulderin the darkand goout. They will diga hole through the wallto bring[it] out. He will coverhis facesothat he can not seethe landwith [his] eyes.
"I will scatterto everywindallwhoare aroundhim, his helpersand allhis troops;and I will drawout a swordafterthem.
"Bringyour baggageout by dayin their sight,as baggagefor exile.Then you will goout at eveningin their sight,as those goinginto exile.
Now in the twelfthyearof our exile,on the fifthof the tenthmonth,the refugeesfrom Jerusalemcameto me, saying,"The cityhas been taken."
I will setMy faceagainst you so that you will be struckdownbeforeyour enemies;and those who hateyou will ruleover you, and you will fleewhen nooneis pursuingyou.
As for those of you who may be left,I will also bringweaknessinto their heartsin the landsof their enemies.And the soundof a drivenleafwill chasethem, and even when noone is pursuingthey will fleeas thoughfrom the sword,and they will fall.
"Thussaysthe LORDof hosts,'The fastof the fourth,the fastof the fifth,the fastof the seventhand the fastof the tenth[months] will becomejoy,gladness,and cheerfulfeastsfor the houseof Judah;so lovetruthand peace.'
"The LORDshall causeyou to be defeatedbeforeyour enemies;you will goout onewayagainstthem, but you will fleesevenwaysbeforethem, and you will be [an example of] terrorto allthe kingdomsof the earth.
"Howcould onechasea thousand,And twoputtenthousandto flight,Unlesstheir Rockhad soldthem, And the LORDhad giventhem up?
