So He said,"Goforthand standon the mountainbeforethe LORD."And behold,the LORDwas passingby! And a greatand strongwindwas rendingthe mountainsand breakingin piecesthe rocksbeforethe LORD;[but] the LORD[was] not in the wind.And afterthe windan earthquake,[but] the LORD[was] not in the earthquake.
Then the LORDansweredJobout of the whirlwindand said,
May our Godcomeand not keepsilence;FiredevoursbeforeHim, And it is verytempestuousaroundHim.
The earthquaked;The heavensalsodropped[rain] at the presenceof God;Sinaiitself[quaked] at the presenceof God,the Godof Israel.
You shedabroada plentifulrain,O God;You confirmedYour inheritancewhen it was parched.
So it cameabout on the thirdday,when it was morning,that there were thunderand lightningflashesand a thickcloudupon the mountainand a veryloudtrumpetsound,so that allthe peoplewho[were] in the camptrembled.
The LORDcamedownon MountSinai,to the topof the mountain;and the LORDcalledMosesto the topof the mountain,and Moseswentup.
Allthe peopleperceivedthe thunderand the lightningflashesand the soundof the trumpetand the mountainsmoking;and when the peoplesaw[it], they trembledand stoodat a distance.
Now the LORDsaidto Moses,"Comeup to Me on the mountainand remainthere,and I will giveyou the stonetabletswith the lawand the commandmentwhichI have writtenfor their instruction."
Mosesenteredthe midstof the cloudas he wentup to the mountain;and Moseswas on the mountainfortydaysand fortynights.
"So be readyby morning,and comeup in the morningto MountSinai,and presentyourselfthereto Me on the topof the mountain.
Then the LORDpassedby in frontof him and proclaimed,"The LORD,the LORDGod,compassionateand gracious,slowto anger,and aboundingin lovingkindnessand truth;
And the LORDwill cause His voiceof authorityto be heard,And the descendingof His armto be seenin fierceanger,And [in] the flameof a consumingfireIn cloudburst,downpourand hailstones.
As I looked,behold,a stormwindwas comingfrom the north,a greatcloudwith fireflashingforthcontinually and a brightlightaroundit, and in its midstsomething like glowingmetalin the midstof the fire.
So I prophesiedas I was commanded;and as I prophesied,there was a noise,and behold,a rattling;and the bonescametogether,boneto its bone.
The LORDis slowto angerand greatin power,And the LORDwill by nomeansleave[the guilty] unpunished.In whirlwindand stormis His way,And cloudsare the dustbeneath His feet.
You will fleeby the valleyof My mountains,for the valleyof the mountainswill reachto Azel;yes, you will fleejustas you fledbeforethe earthquakein the daysof Uzziahkingof Judah.Then the LORD,my God,will come,[and] allthe holyoneswith Him!
Then he saidto me, "Thisis the wordof the LORDto Zerubbabelsaying,Not by mightnorby power,but by My Spirit,'saysthe LORDof hosts.
"For nationwill riseagainstnation,and kingdomagainstkingdom,and in variousplacesthere will be faminesand earthquakes.
And behold,a severeearthquakehad occurred,for an angelof the Lorddescendedfrom heavenand cameand rolled awaythe stoneand satupon it.
And His voiceshookthe earththen,but nowHe has promised,saying,"YETONCE MOREI WILL SHAKENOT ONLYTHE EARTH,BUT ALSOTHE HEAVEN."
And the templeof Godwhich is in heavenwas opened;and the arkof His covenantappearedin His temple,and there were flashes of lightningand soundsand peals of thunderand an earthquakeand a greathailstorm.
And there were flashes of lightningand soundsand peals of thunder;and there was a greatearthquake,suchas there had not beensincemancameto be upon the earth,sogreatan earthquake[was it, and] somighty.
ThenI sawa greatwhitethroneand Him who satupon it, from whosepresenceearthand heavenfled away,and noplacewas foundfor them.
And there was a tremblingin the camp,in the field,and among allthe people.Eventhe garrisonand the raiderstrembled,and the earthquakedso that it becamea greattrembling.
