So Ahabwentup to eatand drink.But Elijahwentup to the topof Carmel;and he croucheddownon the earthand puthis facebetweenhis knees.
WhenAbraham'sservantheardtheir words,he bowedhimself to the groundbefore the LORD.
Davidtherefore inquiredof Godfor the child;and Davidfastedand wentand layall nighton the ground.
Now Elijahsaidto Ahab,"Goup, eatand drink;for there is the soundof the roarof a [heavy] shower."
He saidto his servant,"Goup now,looktowardthe sea."So he wentup and lookedand said,"Thereis nothing."And he said,"Goback"seventimes.
When Elijahheard[it], he wrappedhis facein his mantleand wentout and stoodin the entranceof the cave.And behold,a voice[came] to him and said,"Whatare you doing here,Elijah?"
and I said,"O my God,I am ashamedand embarrassedto liftup my faceto You, my God,for our iniquitieshave risenaboveour headsand our guilthas grownevento the heavens.
"Alsowith moistureHe loadsthe thickcloud;He dispersesthe cloudof His lightning.
A Godgreatlyfearedin the councilof the holyones,And awesomeaboveallthose who are aroundHim?
Then Hezekiahturnedhis faceto the walland prayedto the LORD,
SeraphimstoodaboveHim, eachhaving sixwings:with twohe coveredhis face,and with twohe coveredhis feet,and with twohe flew.
"As I live,"declaresthe KingWhose nameis the LORDof hosts,"Surelyone shall come[who looms up] like Taboramong the mountains,Or like Carmelby the sea.
So I gavemy attentionto the LordGodto seek[Him by] prayerand supplications,with fasting,sackclothand ashes.
"Righteousnessbelongs to You, O Lord,but to us openshame,as it is thisday--to the menof Judah,the inhabitantsof Jerusalemand allIsrael,those who are nearbyand those who are faraway in allthe countriesto whichYou have driventhem, because of their unfaithfuldeedswhichthey have committedagainst You.
After He had sentthe crowdsaway,He wentup on the mountainby Himselfto pray;and when it was evening,He was therealone.
And He wenta littlebeyond[them], and fellto the groundand [began] to praythat ifit were possible,the hourmight passHim by.
It was at thistimethat He went offto the mountainto pray,and He spent the whole nightin prayerto God.
On the next day,as they were on their wayand approachingthe city,Peterwentup on the housetopaboutthe sixthhourto pray.
Then Joshuatorehis clothesand fellto the earthon his facebeforethe arkof the LORDuntilthe evening,[both] he and the eldersof Israel;and they putduston their heads.
So Samuelcalledto the LORD,and the LORDsentthunderand rainthat day;and allthe peoplegreatlyfearedthe LORDand Samuel.
