and he criedto the manof Godwhocamefrom Judah,saying,"Thussaysthe LORD,'Becauseyou have disobeyedthe commandof the LORD,and have not observedthe commandmentwhichthe LORDyour Godcommandedyou,
Then the eyesof bothof them were opened,and they knewthat they were naked;and they sewedfigleavestogetherand madethemselvesloincoverings.
So Gadcameto Davidand toldhim, and saidto him, "Shall sevenyearsof faminecometo you in your land?Orwill you fleethreemonthsbeforeyour foeswhile they pursueyou? Or shall there be threedays'pestilencein your land?Nowconsiderand seewhatanswerI shall returnto Him who sentme."
And the angerof the LORDburnedagainst Uzzah,and Godstruckhim downtherefor his irreverence;and he diedthereby the arkof God.
"For a command[came] to me by the wordof the LORD,'You shall eatnobread,nordrinkwaterthere;do not returnby goingthe waywhichyou came.'"
Now it cameabout, as they were sittingdownat the table,that the wordof the LORDcameto the prophetwhohad broughthim back;
but have returnedand eatenbreadand drunkwaterin the placeof whichHe saidto you, "Eatnobreadand drinknowater";your bodyshall not cometo the graveof your fathers.'"
Then he saidto him, "Becauseyou have not listenedto the voiceof the LORD,behold,as soon as you have departedfrom me, a lionwill killyou." And as soon as he had departedfrom him a lionfoundhim and killedhim.
Hamanrecountedto Zereshhis wifeand allhis friendseverythingthat had happenedto him. Then his wisemenand Zereshhis wifesaidto him, "IfMordecai,beforewhomyou have begunto fall,is of Jewishorigin,you will not overcomehim, but will surelyfallbeforehim."
"Your own wickednesswill correctyou, And your apostasieswill reproveyou; Knowtherefore and seethat it is eviland bitterFor you to forsakethe LORDyour God,And the dreadof Me is not in you," declaresthe LordGODof hosts.
Then Mosessaidto Aaron,"It is whatthe LORDspoke,saying,By those who comenearMe I will be treatedas holy,And beforeallthe peopleI will be honored.'"So Aaron,therefore, keptsilent.
But the LORDsaidto Mosesand Aaron,"Becauseyou have not believedMe, to treatMe as holyin the sightof the sonsof Israel,thereforeyou shall not bringthisassemblyinto the landwhichI have giventhem."
"Aaronwill be gatheredto his people;for he shall not enterthe landwhichI have givento the sonsof Israel,becauseyou rebelledagainstMy commandat the watersof Meribah.
Those whomI love,I reproveand discipline;thereforebe zealousand repent.
"Whythen did you not obeythe voiceof the LORD,but rushedupon the spoiland didwhatwas evilin the sightof the LORD?"
When he mentionedthe arkof God,Eli felloffthe seatbackwardbesidethe gate,and his neckwas brokenand he died,for he was oldand heavy.Thus he judgedIsraelfortyyears.
