³ H8104And keep[H8804] H4931the chargeH3068of the LORDH430thy GodH3212, to walk[H8800] H1870in his waysH8104, to keep[H8800] H2708his statutesH4687, and his commandmentsH4941, and his judgmentsH5715, and his testimoniesH3789, as it is written[H8803] H8451in the lawH4872of MosesH7919, that thou mayest prosper[H8686] H6213in all that thou doest[H8799] H6437, and whithersoever thou turnest[H8799]  thyself:

⁴ H3068That the LORDH6965may continue[H8686] H1697his wordH1696which he spake[H8765] H559concerning me, saying[H8800] H1121, If thy childrenH8104take heed[H8799] H1870to their wayH3212, to walk[H8800] H6440beforeH571me in truthH3824with all their heartH5315and with all their soulH3772, there shall not fail[H8735] H559thee (said[H8800] H376he) a manH3678on the throneH3478of Israel.

⁵ H3045Moreover thou knowest[H8804] H3097also what JoabH1121the sonH6870of ZeruiahH6213did[H8804] H6213to me, and what he did[H8804] H8147to the twoH8269captainsH6635of the hostsH3478of IsraelH74, unto AbnerH1121the sonH5369of NerH6021, and unto AmasaH1121the sonH3500of JetherH2026, whom he slew[H8799] H7760, and shed[H8799] H1818the bloodH4421of warH7965in peaceH5414, and put[H8799] H1818the bloodH4421of warH2290upon his girdleH4975that was about his loinsH5275, and in his shoesH7272that were on his feet.

⁶ H6213Do[H8804] H2451therefore according to thy wisdomH7872, and let not his hoar headH3381go down[H8686] H7585to the graveH7965in peace.

⁷ H6213But shew[H8799] H2617kindnessH1121unto the sonsH1271of BarzillaiH1569the GileaditeH398, and let them be of those that eat[H8802] H7979at thy tableH7126: for so they came[H8804] H1272to me when I fled[H8800] H6440becauseH53of AbsalomH251thy brother.

⁸ H8096And, behold, thou hast with thee ShimeiH1121the sonH1617of GeraH1145, a BenjamiteH980of BahurimH7043, which cursed[H8765] H4834me with a grievous[H8737] H7045curseH3117in the dayH3212when I went[H8800] H4266to MahanaimH3381: but he came down[H8804] H7125to meet[H8800] H3383me at JordanH7650, and I sware[H8735] H3068to him by the LORDH559, saying[H8800] H4191, I will not put thee to death[H8686] H2719with the sword.

⁹ H5352Now therefore hold him not guiltless[H8762] H2450: for thou art a wiseH376manH3045, and knowest[H8804] H6213what thou oughtest to do[H8799] H7872unto him; but his hoar headH3381bring thou down[H8689] H7585to the graveH1818with blood.

¹⁰ H1732So DavidH7901slept[H8799] H1with his fathersH6912, and was buried[H8735] H5892in the cityH1732of David.

¹¹ H3117And the daysH1732that DavidH4427reigned[H8804] H3478over IsraelH705were fortyH8141yearsH7651: sevenH8141yearsH4427reigned[H8804] H2275he in HebronH7970, and thirtyH7969and threeH8141yearsH4427reigned[H8804] H3389he in Jerusalem.

¹² H3427Then sat[H8804] H8010SolomonH3678upon the throneH1732of DavidH1his fatherH4438; and his kingdomH3559was established[H8735] H3966greatly.

¹³ H138And AdonijahH1121the sonH2294of HaggithH935came[H8799] H1339to BathshebaH517the motherH8010of SolomonH559. And she said[H8799] H935, Comest[H8800] H7965thou peaceablyH559? And he said[H8799] H7965, Peaceably.

¹⁴ H559He said[H8799] H1697moreover, I have somewhat to sayH559unto thee. And she said[H8799] H1696, Say on[H8761] .

¹⁵ H559And he said[H8799] H3045, Thou knowest[H8804] H4410that the kingdomH3478was mine, and that all IsraelH7760set[H8804] H6440their facesH4427on me, that I should reign[H8800] H4410: howbeit the kingdomH5437is turned about[H8735] H251, and is become my brother'sH3068: for it was his from the LORD.

¹⁶ H7592And now I ask[H8802] H259oneH7596petitionH7725of thee, deny[H8686] H6440meH559not. And she said[H8799] H1696unto him, Say on[H8761] .

¹⁷ H559And he said[H8799] H559, Speak[H8798] H8010, I pray thee, unto SolomonH4428the kingH7725, (for he will not sayH6440theeH7725nay[H8686] H5414,) that he give[H8799] H49me AbishagH7767the ShunammiteH802to wife.

¹⁸ H1339And BathshebaH559said[H8799] H2896, WellH1696; I will speak[H8762] H4428for thee unto the king.

¹⁹ H1339BathshebaH935therefore went[H8799] H4428unto kingH8010SolomonH1696, to speak[H8763] H138unto him for AdonijahH4428. And the kingH6965rose up[H8799] H7125to meet[H8800] H7812her, and bowed[H8691] H3427himself unto her, and sat down[H8799] H3678on his throneH3678, and caused a seatH7760to be set[H8799] H4428for the king'sH517motherH3427; and she sat[H8799] H3225on his right hand.

²⁰ H559Then she said[H8799] H7592, I desire[H8802] H259oneH6996smallH7596petitionH7725of thee; I pray thee, sayH6440meH7725not nay[H8686] H4428. And the kingH559said[H8799] H7592unto her, Ask on[H8798] H517, my motherH7725: for I will not sayH6440theeH7725nay[H8686] .

²¹ H559And she said[H8799] H49, Let AbishagH7767the ShunammiteH5414be given[H8714] H138to AdonijahH251thy brotherH802to wife.

²² H4428And kingH8010SolomonH6030answered[H8799] H559and said[H8799] H517unto his motherH7592, And why dost thou ask[H8802] H49AbishagH7767the ShunammiteH138for AdonijahH7592? ask[H8798] H4410for him the kingdomH1419also; for he is mine elderH251brotherH54; even for him, and for AbiatharH3548the priestH3097, and for JoabH1121the sonH6870of Zeruiah.

²³ H4428Then kingH8010SolomonH7650sware[H8735] H3068by the LORDH559, saying[H8800] H430, GodH6213do[H8799] H3254so to me, and more also[H8686] H138, if AdonijahH1696have not spoken[H8765] H1697this wordH5315against his own life.

²⁴ H3068Now therefore, as the LORDH2416livethH3559, which hath established[H8689] H3427me, and set[H8686] H3678me on the throneH1732of DavidH1my fatherH6213, and who hath made[H8804] H1004me an houseH1696, as he promised[H8765] H138, AdonijahH4191shall be put to death[H8714] H3117this day.

²⁵ H4428And kingH8010SolomonH7971sent[H8799] H3027by the handH1141of BenaiahH1121the sonH3077of JehoiadaH6293; and he fell[H8799] H4191upon him that he died[H8799] .

²⁶ H54And unto AbiatharH3548the priestH559said[H8804] H4428the kingH3212, Get[H8798] H6068thee to AnathothH7704, unto thine own fieldsH376; for thou art worthyH4194of deathH3117: but I will not at this timeH4191put thee to death[H8686] H5375, because thou barest[H8804] H727the arkH136of the LordH3069GODH6440beforeH1732DavidH1my fatherH6031, and because thou hast been afflicted[H8694] H1in all wherein my fatherH6031was afflicted[H8694] .

²⁷ H8010So SolomonH1644thrust out[H8762] H54AbiatharH3548from being priestH3068unto the LORDH4390; that he might fulfil[H8763] H1697the wordH3068of the LORDH1696, which he spake[H8765] H1004concerning the houseH5941of EliH7887in Shiloh.

²⁸ H8052Then tidingsH935came[H8804] H3097to JoabH3097: for JoabH5186had turned[H8804] H310afterH138AdonijahH5186, though he turned[H8804] H310not afterH53AbsalomH3097. And JoabH5127fled[H8799] H168unto the tabernacleH3068of the LORDH2388, and caught hold[H8686] H7161on the hornsH4196of the altar.

²⁹ H5046And it was told[H8714] H4428kingH8010SolomonH3097that JoabH5127was fled[H8804] H168unto the tabernacleH3068of the LORDH681; and, behold, he is byH4196the altarH8010. Then SolomonH7971sent[H8799] H1141BenaiahH1121the sonH3077of JehoiadaH559, saying[H8800] H3212, Go[H8798] H6293, fall[H8798]  upon him.

³⁰ H1141And BenaiahH935came[H8799] H168to the tabernacleH3068of the LORDH559, and said[H8799] H559unto him, Thus saith[H8804] H4428the kingH3318, Come forth[H8798] H559. And he said[H8799] H4191, Nay; but I will die[H8799] H1141here. And BenaiahH7725broughtH4428the kingH1697wordH7725again[H8686] H559, saying[H8800] H1696, Thus said[H8765] H3097JoabH6030, and thus he answered[H8804]  me.

³¹ H4428And the kingH559said[H8799] H6213unto him, Do[H8798] H1696as he hath said[H8765] H6293, and fall[H8798] H6912upon him, and bury[H8804] H5493him; that thou mayest take away[H8689] H2600the innocentH1818bloodH3097, which JoabH8210shed[H8804] H1004, from me, and from the houseH1of my father.

³² H3068And the LORDH7725shall return[H8689] H1818his bloodH7218upon his own headH6293, who fell[H8804] H8147upon twoH582menH6662more righteousH2896and betterH2026than he, and slew[H8799] H2719them with the swordH1, my fatherH1732DavidH3045not knowing[H8804] H74thereof, to wit, AbnerH1121the sonH5369of NerH8269, captainH6635of the hostH3478of IsraelH6021, and AmasaH1121the sonH3500of JetherH8269, captainH6635of the hostH3063of Judah.

³³ H1818Their bloodH7725shall therefore return[H8804] H7218upon the headH3097of JoabH7218, and upon the headH2233of his seedH5769for everH1732: but upon DavidH2233, and upon his seedH1004, and upon his houseH3678, and upon his throneH7965, shall there be peaceH5704forH5769everH3068from the LORD.

³⁴ H1141So BenaiahH1121the sonH3077of JehoiadaH5927went up[H8799] H6293, and fell[H8799] H4191upon him, and slew[H8686] H6912him: and he was buried[H8735] H1004in his own houseH4057in the wilderness.

³⁵ H4428And the kingH5414put[H8799] H1141BenaiahH1121the sonH3077of JehoiadaH6635in his room over the hostH6659: and ZadokH3548the priestH4428did the kingH5414put[H8804] H54in the room of Abiathar.

³⁶ H4428And the kingH7971sent[H8799] H7121and called[H8799] H8096for ShimeiH559, and said[H8799] H1129unto him, Build[H8798] H1004thee an houseH3389in JerusalemH3427, and dwell[H8804] H3318there, and go not forth[H8799] H575thence any whither.

³⁷ H3117For it shall be, that on the dayH3318thou goest out[H8800] H5674, and passest over[H8804] H5158the brookH6939KidronH3045, thou shalt know[H8799] H3045for certain[H8800] H4191that thou shalt surely[H8800] H4191die[H8799] H1818: thy bloodH7218shall be upon thine own head.

³⁸ H8096And ShimeiH559said[H8799] H4428unto the kingH1697, The sayingH2896is goodH113: as my lordH4428the kingH1696hath said[H8765] H5650, so will thy servantH6213do[H8799] H8096. And ShimeiH3427dwelt[H8799] H3389in JerusalemH7227manyH3117days.

³⁹ H7093And it came to pass at the endH7969of threeH8141yearsH8147, that twoH5650of the servantsH8096of ShimeiH1272ran away[H8799] H397unto AchishH1121sonH4601of MaachahH4428kingH1661of GathH5046. And they told[H8686] H8096ShimeiH559, saying[H8800] H5650, Behold, thy servantsH1661be in Gath.

⁴⁰ H8096And ShimeiH6965arose[H8799] H2280, and saddled[H8799] H2543his assH3212, and went[H8799] H1661to GathH397to AchishH1245to seek[H8763] H5650his servantsH8096: and ShimeiH3212went[H8799] H935, and brought[H8686] H5650his servantsH1661from Gath.

⁴¹ H5046And it was told[H8714] H8010SolomonH8096that ShimeiH1980had gone[H8804] H3389from JerusalemH1661to GathH7725, and was come again[H8799] .

⁴² H4428And the kingH7971sent[H8799] H7121and called[H8799] H8096for ShimeiH559, and said[H8799] H7650unto him, Did I not make thee to swear[H8689] H3068by the LORDH5749, and protested[H8686] H559unto thee, saying[H8800] H3045, Know[H8799] H3045for a certain[H8800] H3117, on the dayH3318thou goest out[H8800] H1980, and walkest[H8804] H575abroad any whitherH4191, that thou shalt surely[H8800] H4191die[H8799] H559? and thou saidst[H8799] H1697unto me, The wordH8085that I have heard[H8804] H2896is good.

⁴³ H8104Why then hast thou not kept[H8804] H7621the oathH3068of the LORDH4687, and the commandmentH6680that I have charged[H8765]  thee with?

⁴⁴ H4428The kingH559said[H8799] H8096moreover to ShimeiH3045, Thou knowest[H8804] H7451all the wickednessH3824which thine heartH3045is privy to[H8804] H6213, that thou didst[H8804] H1732to DavidH1my fatherH3068: therefore the LORDH7725shall return[H8689] H7451thy wickednessH7218upon thine own head;

⁴⁵ H4428And kingH8010SolomonH1288shall be blessed[H8803] H3678, and the throneH1732of DavidH3559shall be established[H8737] H6440beforeH3068the LORDH5704forH5769ever.

⁴⁶ H4428So the kingH6680commanded[H8762] H1141BenaiahH1121the sonH3077of JehoiadaH3318; which went out[H8799] H6293, and fell[H8799] H4191upon him, that he died[H8799] H4467. And the kingdomH3559was established[H8738] H3027in the handH8010of Solomon.
