³ H1245So they sought[H8762] H3303for a fairH5291damselH1366throughout all the coastsH3478of IsraelH4672, and found[H8799] H49AbishagH7767a ShunammiteH935, and brought[H8686] H4428her to the king.

⁴ H5291And the damselH3966was veryH3303fairH5532, and cherished[H8802] H4428the kingH8334, and ministered[H8762] H4428to him: but the kingH3045knew[H8804]  her not.

⁵ H138Then AdonijahH1121the sonH2294of HaggithH4984exalted[H8693] H559himself, saying[H8800] H4427, I will be king[H8799] H6213: and he prepared[H8799] H7393him chariotsH6571and horsemenH2572, and fiftyH376menH7323to run[H8801] H6440before him.

⁶ H1And his fatherH6087had not displeased[H8804] H3117him at any timeH559in saying[H8800] H6213, Why hast thou done so[H8804] H3966? and he also was a veryH2896goodlyH8389 H3205man; and his mother bare[H8804] H310him afterH53Absalom.

⁷ H1697And he conferredH3097with JoabH1121the sonH6870of ZeruiahH54, and with AbiatharH3548the priestH310: and they followingH138AdonijahH5826helped[H8799]  him .

⁸ H6659But ZadokH3548the priestH1141, and BenaiahH1121the sonH3077of JehoiadaH5416, and NathanH5030the prophetH8096, and ShimeiH7472, and ReiH1368, and the mighty menH1732which belonged to DavidH138, were not with Adonijah.

⁹ H138And AdonijahH2076slew[H8799] H6629sheepH1241and oxenH4806and fat cattleH68by the stoneH2120of ZohelethH681, which is byH5883EnrogelH7121, and called[H8799] H251all his brethrenH4428the king'sH1121sonsH582, and all the menH3063of JudahH4428the king'sH5650servants:

¹⁰ H5416But NathanH5030the prophetH1141, and BenaiahH1368, and the mighty menH8010, and SolomonH251his brotherH7121, he called[H8804]  not.

¹¹ H5416Wherefore NathanH559spake[H8799] H1339unto BathshebaH517the motherH8010of SolomonH559, saying[H8800] H8085, Hast thou not heard[H8804] H138that AdonijahH1121the sonH2294of HaggithH4427doth reign[H8804] H1732, and DavidH113our lordH3045knoweth[H8804]  it not?

¹² H3212Now therefore come[H8798] H3289, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel[H8799] H6098 H4422, that thou mayest save[H8761] H5315thine own lifeH5315, and the lifeH1121of thy sonH8010Solomon.

¹³ H3212Go[H8798] H935and get thee in[H8798] H4428unto kingH1732DavidH559, and say[H8804] H113unto him, Didst not thou, my lordH4428, O kingH7650, swear[H8738] H519unto thine handmaidH559, saying[H8800] H3588, AssuredlyH8010SolomonH1121thy sonH4427shall reign[H8799] H310afterH3427me, and he shall sit[H8799] H3678upon my throneH138? why then doth AdonijahH4427reign[H8804] ?

¹⁴ H1696Behold, while thou yet talkest[H8764] H4428there with the kingH935, I also will come in[H8799] H310afterH4390thee, and confirm[H8765] H1697thy words.

¹⁵ H1339And BathshebaH935went in[H8799] H4428unto the kingH2315into the chamberH4428: and the kingH3966was veryH2204old[H8804] H49; and AbishagH7767the ShunammiteH8334ministered[H8764] H4428unto the king.

¹⁶ H1339And BathshebaH6915bowed[H8799] H7812, and did obeisance[H8691] H4428unto the kingH4428. And the kingH559said[H8799] , What wouldest thou?

¹⁷ H559And she said[H8799] H113unto him, My lordH7650, thou swarest[H8738] H3068by the LORDH430thy GodH519unto thine handmaidH8010, saying, Assuredly SolomonH1121thy sonH4427shall reign[H8799] H310afterH3427me, and he shall sit[H8799] H3678upon my throne.

¹⁸ H138And now, behold, AdonijahH4427reigneth[H8804] H113; and now, my lordH4428the kingH3045, thou knowest[H8804]  it not:

¹⁹ H2076And he hath slain[H8799] H7794oxenH4806and fat cattleH6629and sheepH7230in abundanceH7121, and hath called[H8799] H1121all the sonsH4428of the kingH54, and AbiatharH3548the priestH3097, and JoabH8269the captainH6635of the hostH8010: but SolomonH5650thy servantH7121hath he not called[H8804] .

²⁰ H113And thou, my lordH4428, O kingH5869, the eyesH3478of all IsraelH5046are upon thee, that thou shouldest tell[H8687] H3427them who shall sit[H8799] H3678on the throneH113of my lordH4428the kingH310after him.

²¹ H113Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lordH4428the kingH7901shall sleep[H8800] H1with his fathersH1121, that I and my sonH8010SolomonH2400shall be counted offenders.

²² H1696And, lo, while she yet talked[H8764] H4428with the kingH5416, NathanH5030the prophetH935also came in[H8804] .

²³ H5046And they told[H8686] H4428the kingH559, saying[H8800] H5416, Behold NathanH5030the prophetH935. And when he was come in[H8799] H6440beforeH4428the kingH7812, he bowed[H8691] H4428himself before the kingH639with his faceH776to the ground.

²⁴ H5416And NathanH559said[H8799] H113, My lordH4428, O kingH559, hast thou said[H8804] H138, AdonijahH4427shall reign[H8799] H310afterH3427me, and he shall sit[H8799] H3678upon my throne?

²⁵ H3381For he is gone down[H8804] H3117this dayH2076, and hath slain[H8799] H7794oxenH4806and fat cattleH6629and sheepH7230in abundanceH7121, and hath called[H8799] H4428all the king'sH1121sonsH8269, and the captainsH6635of the hostH54, and AbiatharH3548the priestH398; and, behold, they eat[H8802] H8354and drink[H8802] H6440beforeH559him, and say[H8799] H2421, God save[H8799] H4428kingH138Adonijah.

²⁶ H5650But me, even me thy servantH6659, and ZadokH3548the priestH1141, and BenaiahH1121the sonH3077of JehoiadaH5650, and thy servantH8010SolomonH7121, hath he not called[H8804] .

²⁷ H1697Is this thingH1961done[H8738] H113by my lordH4428the kingH3045, and thou hast not shewed[H8689] H5650it unto thy servantH3427, who should sit[H8799] H3678on the throneH113of my lordH4428the kingH310after him?

²⁸ H4428Then kingH1732DavidH6030answered[H8799] H559and said[H8799] H7121, Call[H8798] H1339me BathshebaH935. And she came[H8799] H4428into the king'sH6440presenceH5975, and stood[H8799] H6440beforeH4428the king.

²⁹ H4428And the kingH7650sware[H8735] H559, and said[H8799] H3068, As the LORDH2416livethH6299, that hath redeemed[H8804] H5315my soulH6869out of all distress,

³⁰ H7650Even as I sware[H8738] H3068unto thee by the LORDH430GodH3478of IsraelH559, saying[H8800] H8010, Assuredly SolomonH1121thy sonH4427shall reign[H8799] H310afterH3427me, and he shall sit[H8799] H3678upon my throneH6213in my stead; even so will I certainly do[H8799] H3117this day.

³¹ H1339Then BathshebaH6915bowed[H8799] H639with her faceH776to the earthH7812, and did reverence[H8691] H4428to the kingH559, and said[H8799] H113, Let my lordH4428kingH1732DavidH2421live[H8799] H5769for ever.

³² H4428And kingH1732DavidH559said[H8799] H7121, Call[H8798] H6659me ZadokH3548the priestH5416, and NathanH5030the prophetH1141, and BenaiahH1121the sonH3077of JehoiadaH935. And they came[H8799] H6440beforeH4428the king.

³³ H4428The kingH559also said[H8799] H3947unto them, Take[H8798] H5650with you the servantsH113of your lordH8010, and cause SolomonH1121my sonH7392to ride[H8689] H6506upon mine own muleH3381, and bring him down[H8689] H1521to Gihon:

³⁴ H6659And let ZadokH3548the priestH5416and NathanH5030the prophetH4886anoint[H8804] H4428him there kingH3478over IsraelH8628: and blow[H8804] H7782ye with the trumpetH559, and say[H8804] H2421, God save[H8799] H4428kingH8010Solomon.

³⁵ H5927Then ye shall come up[H8804] H310afterH935him, that he may come[H8804] H3427and sit[H8804] H3678upon my throneH4427; for he shall be king[H8799] H6680in my stead: and I have appointed[H8765] H5057him to be rulerH3478over IsraelH3063and over Judah.

³⁶ H1141And BenaiahH1121the sonH3077of JehoiadaH6030answered[H8799] H4428the kingH559, and said[H8799] H543, AmenH3068: the LORDH430GodH113of my lordH4428the kingH559say[H8799]  so too .

³⁷ H3068As the LORDH113hath been with my lordH4428the kingH8010, even so be he with SolomonH1431, and makeH3678his throneH1431greater[H8762] H3678than the throneH113of my lordH4428kingH1732David.

³⁸ H6659So ZadokH3548the priestH5416, and NathanH5030the prophetH1141, and BenaiahH1121the sonH3077of JehoiadaH3774, and the CherethitesH6432, and the PelethitesH3381, went down[H8799] H8010, and caused SolomonH7392to ride[H8686] H4428upon kingH1732David'sH6506muleH3212, and brought[H8686] H1521him to Gihon.

³⁹ H6659And ZadokH3548the priestH3947took[H8799] H7161an hornH8081of oilH168out of the tabernacleH4886, and anointed[H8799] H8010SolomonH8628. And they blew[H8799] H7782the trumpetH5971; and all the peopleH559said[H8799] H2421, God save[H8799] H4428kingH8010Solomon.

⁴⁰ H5971And all the peopleH5927came up[H8799] H310afterH5971him, and the peopleH2490piped[H8764] H2485with pipesH8056, and rejoicedH1419with greatH8057joyH776, so that the earthH1234rent[H8735] H6963with the sound of them.

⁴¹ H138And AdonijahH7121and all the guests[H8803] H8085that were with him heard[H8799] H3615it as they had made an end[H8765] H398of eating[H8800] H3097. And when JoabH8085heard[H8799] H6963the soundH7782of the trumpetH559, he said[H8799] H6963, Wherefore is this noiseH7151of the cityH1993being in an uproar[H8802] ?

⁴² H1696And while he yet spake[H8764] H3129, behold, JonathanH1121the sonH54of AbiatharH3548the priestH935came[H8804] H138: and AdonijahH559said[H8799] H935unto him, Come in[H8798] H2428; for thou art a valiantH376man[H8676] H381 H1319, and bringestH2896goodH1319tidings[H8762] .

⁴³ H3129And JonathanH6030answered[H8799] H559and said[H8799] H138to AdonijahH61, VerilyH113our lordH4428kingH1732DavidH8010hath made SolomonH4427king[H8689] .

⁴⁴ H4428And the kingH7971hath sent[H8799] H6659with him ZadokH3548the priestH5416, and NathanH5030the prophetH1141, and BenaiahH1121the sonH3077of JehoiadaH3774, and the CherethitesH6432, and the PelethitesH7392, and they have caused him to ride[H8686] H4428upon the king'sH6506mule:

⁴⁵ H6659And ZadokH3548the priestH5416and NathanH5030the prophetH4886have anointed[H8799] H4428him kingH1521in GihonH5927: and they are come up[H8799] H8056from thence rejoicingH7151, so that the cityH1949rang again[H8735] H6963. This is the noiseH8085that ye have heard[H8804] .

⁴⁶ H8010And also SolomonH3427sitteth[H8804] H3678on the throneH4410of the kingdom.

⁴⁷ H4428And moreover the king'sH5650servantsH935came[H8804] H1288to bless[H8763] H113our lordH4428kingH1732DavidH559, saying[H8800] H430, GodH8034make the nameH8010of SolomonH3190better[H8686] H8034than thy nameH1431, and makeH3678his throneH1431greater[H8762] H3678than thy throneH4428. And the kingH7812bowed[H8691] H4904himself upon the bed.

⁴⁸ H559And also thus said[H8804] H4428the kingH1288, Blessed[H8803] H3068be the LORDH430GodH3478of IsraelH5414, which hath given[H8804] H3427one to sit[H8802] H3678on my throneH3117this dayH5869, mine eyesH7200even seeing[H8802]  it .

⁴⁹ H7121And all the guests[H8803] H138that were with AdonijahH2729were afraid[H8799] H6965, and rose up[H8799] H3212, and went[H8799] H376every manH1870his way.

⁵⁰ H138And AdonijahH3372feared[H8804] H6440becauseH8010of SolomonH6965, and arose[H8799] H3212, and went[H8799] H2388, and caught hold[H8686] H7161on the hornsH4196of the altar.

⁵¹ H5046And it was told[H8714] H8010SolomonH559, saying[H8800] H138, Behold, AdonijahH3372feareth[H8804] H4428kingH8010SolomonH270: for, lo, he hath caught hold[H8804] H7161on the hornsH4196of the altarH559, saying[H8800] H4428, Let kingH8010SolomonH7650swear[H8735] H3117unto me to dayH4191that he will not slay[H8686] H5650his servantH2719with the sword.

⁵² H8010And SolomonH559said[H8799] H2428, If he will shew himself a worthyH1121manH8185, there shall not an hairH5307of him fall[H8799] H776to the earthH7451: but if wickednessH4672shall be found[H8735] H4191in him, he shall die[H8804] .

⁵³ H4428So kingH8010SolomonH7971sent[H8799] H3381, and they brought him down[H8686] H4196from the altarH935. And he came[H8799] H7812and bowed[H8691] H4428himself to kingH8010SolomonH8010: and SolomonH559said[H8799] H3212unto him, Go[H8798] H1004to thine house.
