Nahum 2 - Easy To Read Version

¹ An enemy is coming to attack you.\par So guard the strong places of your city.\par Watch the road.\par Get ready for war.\par Prepare for battle!\par

² Yes, the Lord changed Jacob’s {\cf2\super [5]} pride.\par He made it like Israel’s pride.\par \{The enemy\} destroyed them\par and ruined their grapevines.\par

³ The shields of those soldiers are red.\par Their uniforms are bright red.\par Their chariots {\cf2\super [6]} are lined up for battle,\par and shining like flames of fire.\par And their horses are ready to go.\par

⁴ The chariots race wildly through the streets.\par They rush back and forth through the square.\par They look like burning torches,\par like lightning flashing\par from place to place!\par

⁵ \{The enemy\} calls for his best soldiers.\par They stumble as they rush ahead.\par They run to the wall and set up their shield \{over the battering ram\}.\par

⁶ But the gates by the rivers are open,\par and the enemy comes flooding in\par and destroys the king’s house.\par

⁷ The enemy takes away the queen.\par And her slave girls moan sadly\par like doves.\par They beat their breasts\par \{to show their sadness\}.\par

⁸ Nineveh is like a pool whose water\par is draining away.\par People yell,\par “Stop! Stop running away!”\par But it doesn’t do any good!\par

⁹ \{You soldiers that are destroying Nineveh\},\par take the silver!\par Take the gold!\par There are many things to take.\par There are many treasures!\par

¹⁰ Now \{Nineveh\} is empty\par Everything is stolen.\par The city is ruined!\par People have lost their courage,\par their hearts are melting with fear,\par their knees are knocking together,\par their bodies are shaking,\par their faces become pale from fear.\par

¹¹ Where is the lion’s cave (Nineveh) now?\par The male and female lions lived there.\par Their babies were not afraid.\par

¹² The lion (king of Nineveh) killed people\par to feed his cubs and lionesses.\par He filled his cave (Nineveh)\par with men’s bodies.\par He filled his cave\par with women he had killed.\par

¹³ The Lord All-Powerful says,\par “I am against you, \{Nineveh\}!\par I will burn your chariots.\par I will kill your ‘young lions’ in battle.\par You will not hunt anyone on earth again.\par People will never again hear bad news\par from your messengers.”\par
