God, why do you avoid me,\par and treat me like your enemy?\par


When God is working in the north,\par I don’t see him.\par When God turns to the south,\par I still don’t see him.\par


But if God decides not to help them,\par then no person can judge God guilty.\par If God hides himself from people,\par then no person can find him.\par God is the ruler over people and nations.\par


My God, my God!\par Why did you leave me?\par You are too far away to save me!\par You are too far away to hear my cries for help!\par


Lord, don’t turn away from your servant.\par Help me!\par Don’t push me away!\par Don’t leave me!\par My God, you are my Savior.\par


Yes, Lord, while you were kind to me,\par I felt like nothing could defeat me! {\cf2\super [183]} \par But when you turned away from me,\par I became scared and shook with fear.\par


God, why are you hiding from us?\par Have you forgotten our pain and troubles?\par


We have been pushed down into the dirt.\par We are lying with our belly in the dust. {\cf2\super [269]} \par


God is our storehouse of strength.\par In him, we can always find help\par in times of trouble.\par


Lord, why have you abandoned me?\par Why do you refuse to listen to me?\par


God, you are the Hope of Israel!\par You save Israel in times of trouble.\par But now it seems like you are\par a stranger in the land.\par It seems like you are a traveler that only stays one night.\par


You seem like a man that has been attacked by surprise.\par You seem like a soldier that does not have the power to save anyone.\par But Lord, you are with us.\par We are called by your name,\par So don’t leave us without help!”\par
