I promise that I will not keep anything that is yours—not even a thread or a shoestring! I don’t want you to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’


“I’m sure you think you are\par the only wise people.\par You think when you die,\par wisdom will be gone with you.\par


“Pity me, my friends, pity me!\par Why? Because God is against me.\par


But it is God who did wrong to me.\par He set his trap to catch me.\par


Job answered his wife, “You talk like a foolish woman! God gives us good things, and we accept them. So we should also accept trouble \{and not complain\}.” All these things happened. But Job did not sin. He did not speak against God.


If I ever did any of those bad things,\par then let thorns and weeds\par grow in my fields\par instead of wheat and barley {\cf2\super [68]} !”\par


I listened carefully to the things you said.\par Not one of you criticized Job.\par Not one of you answered his arguments.\par


Job did not present his arguments to me.\par So I won’t use the arguments\par you three men have used.\par


God’s punishment kills those people.\par God’s anger destroys them.\par


God All-Powerful’s arrows are in me.\par My spirit feels the poison\par from those arrows!\par God’s terrible weapons are lined up\par against me.\par


So, a long time ago I told you\par what would happen.\par I told you about those things\par a long time before they happened.\par I did this so that you could not say,\par ‘The gods we made did.’\par I did this so that you could not say,\par ‘Our idols, our statues,\par made these things happen.’”\par


These are not things that happened long ago.\par These are things that are happening now.\par You haven’t heard about these things\par before today.\par So you can’t say,\par ‘We already knew that.’\par


Those people think they are very smart. They think they are very intelligent.


The Lord says:\par “Wise men must not brag\par about their wisdom.\par Strong men must not brag\par about their strength.\par Rich men must not brag\par about their money.\par


You think you are wiser than Danel! {\cf2\super [234]} \par You think you can find out all secrets!\par


The Lord will save the people of Judah first, so the people in Jerusalem will not be able to brag too much. David’s family and the other people living in Jerusalem will not be able to brag that they are better than the other people in Judah.


Jesus answered, “The only power you have over me is the power given to you by God. So the man who gave me to you is guilty of a greater sin.”


Don’t fool yourselves. If any person among you thinks that he is wise in this world, then he should become a fool. Then that person can become truly wise.


Then the Lord said to Gideon, “I am going to help your men to defeat the people of Midian. But you have too many men for the job. I don’t want the people of Israel to forget me and brag that they saved themselves.
