Ezekiel 28 - Easy To Read Version

The word of the Lord came to me. He said,

“Son of man, {\cf2\super [233]} say to the ruler of Tyre, ‘The Lord my Master says these things:

You think you are wiser than Danel! {\cf2\super [234]} \par You think you can find out all secrets!\par

Through your wisdom and understanding\par you have gotten riches for yourself.\par And you put gold and silver\par in your treasuries.\par

Through your great wisdom and trade,\par you have made your riches grow.\par And now you are proud because of\par those riches.\par

“‘So the Lord my Master says these things: Tyre, you thought you were like a god.\par

I will bring strangers to fight against you.\par They are most terrible among the nations!\par They will pull out their swords\par and use them against the beautiful things\par that your wisdom brought you.\par They will ruin your glory.\par

They will bring you down to the grave.\par You will be like a sailor that died at sea.\par

That person will kill you.\par Will you still say, “I am a god”?\par No! He will have you in his power.\par You will see that you are a man, not God!\par

Strangers will treat you like a foreigner {\cf2\super [235]} \par and kill you.\par \{Those things will happen because\}\par I gave the command!’”\par The Lord my Master said those things.\par

The word of the Lord came to me. He said,

“Son of man, {\cf2\super [236]} sing this sad song about the king of Tyre. Say to him, ‘The Lord my Master says these things:

You were in Eden,\par the Garden of God.\par You had every precious stone—\par rubies, topaz, and diamonds;\par beryls, onyx, and jasper;\par sapphires, turquoise, and emeralds.\par And each of these stones was set in gold.\par You were given this beauty\par on the day you were created.\par \{God\} made you strong.\par

You were one of the chosen Cherubs. {\cf2\super [237]} \par \{Your wings\} spread over \{my throne\}.\par And I put you on the holy mountain of God.\par You walked among the jewels\par that sparkled like fire.\par

You were good and honest\par when I created you.\par But then you became evil.\par

Your business brought you \{many riches\}.\par But they also put cruelty inside you.\par And you sinned.\par So I treated you like you were some\par unclean thing—\par I threw you off the mountain of God.\par You were one of the special Cherub angels—\par \{Your wings\} spread over \{my throne\}.\par But I forced you to leave the jewels\par that sparkled like fire.\par

Your beauty made you proud.\par Your glory ruined your wisdom.\par So I threw you down to the ground.\par And now other kings stare at you.\par

You did many wrong things.\par You were a very crooked businessman.\par In this way, you made the holy places unclean.\par So I brought fire from inside you.\par It burned you!\par You burned to ashes on the ground.\par Now everyone can see your shame.\par

All the people in other nations\par were shocked about what happened to you.\par What happened to you will make people very afraid.\par You are finished!’”\par

The word of the Lord came to me. He said,

“Son of man, {\cf2\super [238]} look toward Sidon and speak for me against that place.

Say, ‘The Lord my Master says these things:

I will send disease and death to Sidon,\par and many people inside the city will die.\par The sword (enemy soldiers) outside the city\par will kill many people.\par Then they will know that I am the Lord!’”\par

“‘The countries around Israel hated her. \{But bad things will happen to those countries.\} Then there won’t be any sharp stickers or thorn bushes to hurt the family of Israel. And they will know that I am the Lord their Master.’”

The Lord my Master said these things, “I scattered the people of Israel among other nations. But I will gather the family of Israel together again. Then those nations will know that I am holy and they will treat me that way. At that time, the people of Israel will live in their land—I gave that land to my servant Jacob.

They will live safely in the land. They will build houses and plant vineyards. I will punish the nations around them that hated them. Then the people of Israel will live in safety. And they will know that I am the Lord their God.”
