Look, you people make war and steal things from people, and those people never stole anything from you. You turn against people, and those people never turned against you. So when you stop stealing, other people will begin stealing from you. When you stop turning against people, other people will start turning against you.


“Then people will treat you badly. People will give you \{to the rulers\} to be persecuted (hurt) and killed. All people will hate you. All these things will happen to you because you believe in me.


“People will say bad things against you and hurt you. They will lie and say all kinds of evil things against you because you follow me. But when people do those things to you, know that God will bless you.


Remember the lesson I told you: A servant is not greater than his master. If people did wrong to me, then they will do wrong to you too. And if people obeyed my teaching, then they will obey yours too.


In those cities Paul and Barnabas made the followers \{of Jesus\} stronger. They helped them to stay in the faith. Paul and Barnabas said, “We must suffer many things on our way into God’s kingdom.”


He came to us and borrowed Paul’s belt. Then Agabus used the belt to tie his own hands and feet. Agabus said, “The Holy Spirit {\cf2\super [418]} tells me, ‘This is how the Jews in Jerusalem will tie the man who wears this belt. {\cf2\super [419]} Then they will give him to the non-Jewish people.’”


But Paul said, “Why are you crying? Why are you making me so sad? I am ready to be tied in Jerusalem. I am also ready to die for the name of the Lord Jesus!”


We found some followers \{of Jesus\} in Tyre, and we stayed with them for seven days. They warned Paul not to go to Jerusalem because of what the Holy Spirit {\cf2\super [413]} had told them.


Now he (Saul) has come here to Damascus. The leading priests have given him the power to arrest all people that believe in you. {\cf2\super [190]} ”


Get up now and go into the city. Someone there will tell you what you must do.”


But in every way we show that we are servants of God: in accepting many hard things, in troubles, in difficulties, and in great problems.


We sent Timothy so that none of you would be upset by these troubles we have now. You yourselves know that we must have these troubles.


And I suffer now because I tell that Good News. But I am not ashamed. I know the One (Jesus) that I have believed. I am sure that he is able to protect the things that he has trusted me with until that Day. {\cf2\super [8]}


You know about my persecutions (troubles) and my sufferings. You know all the things that happened to me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. You know the persecutions I suffered in those places. But the Lord saved me from all those troubles.


When people say bad things to you because you follow Christ, then you are blessed (happy). You are blessed because the Spirit {\cf2\super [28]} of glory is with you. That is the Spirit of God.


I am John, and I am your brother \{in Christ\}. We are together in Jesus, and we share these things: suffering, the kingdom, and patient endurance. I was on the island of Patmos {\cf2\super [7]} because I was faithful to God’s message {\cf2\super [8]} and to the truth of Jesus.
