For the landhas becomedefiled,therefore I have broughtits punishmentupon it, so the landhas spewedout its inhabitants.
He actedveryabominablyin followingidols,according to allthat the Amoriteshad done,whomthe LORDcastout beforethe sonsof Israel.
whichYou have commandedby Your servantsthe prophets,saying,'The landwhichyou are enteringto possessis an uncleanlandwith the uncleannessof the peoplesof the lands,with their abominationswhichhave filledit from endto end[and] with their impurity.
And shedinnocentblood,The bloodof their sonsand their daughters,Whomthey sacrificedto the idolsof Canaan;And the landwas pollutedwith the blood.
Then I will punishtheir transgressionwith the rodAnd their iniquitywith stripes.
The earthis also pollutedby its inhabitants,for they transgressedlaws,violatedstatutes,brokethe everlastingcovenant.
For behold,the LORDis about to comeout from His placeTo punishthe inhabitantsof the earthfor their iniquity;And the earthwill revealher bloodshedAnd will nolongercoverher slain.
Thussaysthe LORDto thispeople,"Even sothey have lovedto wander;they have not kepttheir feetin check.Therefore the LORDdoes not acceptthem; nowHe will remembertheir iniquityand calltheir sinsto account."
"I will firstdoublyrepaytheir iniquityand their sin,becausethey have pollutedMy land;they have filledMy inheritancewith the carcassesof their detestableidolsand with their abominations."
"I broughtyou into the fruitfullandTo eatits fruitand its goodthings.But you cameand defiledMy land,And My inheritanceyou madean abomination.
Thereforethussaysthe LORDGodof Israelconcerningthe shepherdswho are tendingMy people:"You have scatteredMy flockand driventhem away,and have not attendedto them; behold,I am about to attendto you for the evilof your deeds,"declaresthe LORD.
Shall I not punishthese[people]?' declaresthe LORD,'On a nationsuchas thisShall I not avengeMyself?'
"Shall I not punishthese[people]," declaresthe LORD,"And on a nationsuchas thisShall I not avengeMyself?
"Shall I not punishthem for thesethings?"declaresthe LORD."On a nationsuchas thisShall I not avengeMyself?
"I will punishher for the daysof the BaalsWhenshe used to offersacrificesto them And adornherself with her earringsand jewelry,And followher lovers,so that she forgotMe," declaresthe LORD.
As for My sacrificialgifts,They sacrificethe fleshand eat[it], [But] the LORDhas takennodelightin them. NowHe will remembertheir iniquity,And punish[them] for their sins;They will returnto Egypt.
They have gonedeepin depravityAs in the daysof Gibeah;He will remembertheir iniquity,He will punishtheir sins.
But as for you, you are to keepMy statutesand My judgmentsand shall not doanyof theseabominations,[neither] the native,nor the alienwho sojournsamongyou
so that the landwill not spewyou out, should you defileit, as it has spewedout the nationwhichhas been beforeyou.
For we knowthat the wholecreationgroansand suffers the pains of childbirthtogetheruntilnow.
"For whoeverdoesthesethingsis detestableto the LORD;and becauseof thesedetestablethingsthe LORDyour Godwill drivethem out beforeyou.
his corpseshall not hangall nighton the tree,but you shall surelyburyhim on the sameday(for he who is hangedis accursedof God),so that you do not defileyour landwhichthe LORDyour Godgivesyou as an inheritance.
"It is not for your righteousnessor for the uprightnessof your heartthat you are goingto possesstheir land,but [it is] becauseof the wickednessof thesenations[that] the LORDyour Godis drivingthem out beforeyou, in orderto confirmthe oathwhichthe LORDsworeto your fathers,to Abraham,Isaacand Jacob.
