Now Nadaband Abihu,the sonsof Aaron,tooktheir respectivefirepans,and after puttingfirein them, placedincenseon it and offeredstrangefirebeforethe LORD,whichHe had not commandedthem.
Then the fireof the LORDfelland consumedthe burntofferingand the woodand the stonesand the dust,and lickedup the waterthat was in the trench.
May my prayerbe countedas incensebeforeYou; The liftingup of my handsas the eveningoffering.
Then He saidto Moses,"Comeup to the LORD,you and Aaron,Nadaband Abihuand seventyof the eldersof Israel,and you shall worshipat a distance.
Then Moseswentup with Aaron,Nadaband Abihu,and seventyof the eldersof Israel,
"You shall makeits pailsfor removingits ashes,and its shovelsand its basinsand its forksand its firepans;you shall makeallits utensilsof bronze.
"Then bringnearto yourself Aaronyour brother,and his sonswith him, from amongthe sonsof Israel,to ministeras priestto Me-- Aaron,Nadaband Abihu,Eleazarand Ithamar,Aaron'ssons.
the anointingoilalso, and the fragrantincensefor the holyplace, they are to make[them] according to allthat I have commandedyou."
And he madethe holyanointingoiland the pure,fragrantincenseof spices,the workof a perfumer.
He madeallthe utensilsof the altar,the pailsand the shovelsand the basins,the fleshhooksand the firepans;he madeallits utensilsof bronze.
and he burnedfragrantincenseon it, justas the LORDhad commandedMoses.
AaronmarriedElisheba,the daughterof Amminadab,the sisterof Nahshon,and she borehim Nadaband Abihu,Eleazarand Ithamar.
"We must goa threedays'journeyinto the wildernessand sacrificeto the LORDour Godas He commandsus."
and have builtthe highplacesof Baalto burntheir sonsin the fireas burntofferingsto Baal,a thing whichI nevercommandedor spokeof, nordid it [ever] enterMy mind;
"They builtthe highplacesof Baalthat are in the valleyof Ben-hinnomto cause their sonsand their daughtersto passthrough[the fire] to Molech,whichI had not commandedthem norhad it enteredMy mindthat they should dothisabomination,to cause Judahto sin.
Then allthe menwho were awarethat their wiveswere burningsacrificesto othergods,along with allthe womenwho were standingby, [as] a largeassembly,including allthe peoplewho were livingin Pathrosin the landof Egypt,respondedto Jeremiah,saying,
provokingMe to angerwith the worksof your hands,burningsacrificesto othergodsin the landof Egypt,whereyou are enteringto reside,sothat you might be cutoffand becomea curseand a reproachamong allthe nationsof the earth?
"They have builtthe highplacesof Topheth,whichis in the valleyof the sonof Hinnom,to burntheir sonsand their daughtersin the fire,whichI did not command,and it did not comeinto My mind.
Now the LORDspoketo Mosesafterthe deathof the twosonsof Aaron,when they had approachedthe presenceof the LORDand died.
"He shall takea firepanfullof coalsof firefrom upon the altarbeforethe LORDand two handfulsof finelygroundsweetincense,and bring[it] insidethe veil.
They shall therefore keepMy charge,so that they will not bearsinbecauseof it and diethereby becausethey profaneit; I am the LORDwho sanctifiesthem.
Then firecameout from beforethe LORDand consumedthe burntofferingand the portionsof faton the altar;and when allthe peoplesaw[it], they shoutedand fellon their faces.
Mosessaidto Aaron,"Takeyour censerand putin it firefrom the altar,and layincense[on it]; then bringit quicklyto the congregationand makeatonementfor them, for wrathhas goneforthfrom the LORD,the plaguehas begun!"
But Nadaband Abihudiedwhen they offeredstrangefirebeforethe LORD.
"Do not let the tribeof the familiesof the Kohathitesbe cutofffrom amongthe Levites.
"WhateverI commandyou, you shall be carefulto do;you shall not addto nortakeawayfrom it.
and has goneand servedothergodsand worshipedthem, or the sunorthe moonoranyof the heavenlyhost,whichI have not commanded,
"You shall not addto the wordwhichI am commandingyou, nortakeawayfrom it, that you may keepthe commandmentsof the LORDyour GodwhichI commandyou.
havinga goldenaltar of incenseand the arkof the covenantcoveredon all sideswith gold,in whichwas a goldenjarholdingthe manna,and Aaron'srodwhich budded,and the tablesof the covenant;
