Then Joshuasaidto the people,"You will not be ableto servethe LORD,for He is a holyGod.He is a jealousGod;He will not forgiveyour transgressionor your sins.
but they [continually] mockedthe messengersof God,despisedHis wordsand scoffedat His prophets,untilthe wrathof the LORDaroseagainst His people,untiltherewas noremedy.
Let them praiseYour greatand awesomename;Holyis He.
Exaltthe LORDour GodAnd worshipat His footstool;Holyis He.
Exaltthe LORDour GodAnd worshipat His holyhill,For holyis the LORDour God.
"You shall not worshipthem or servethem; for I, the LORDyour God,am a jealousGod,visitingthe iniquityof the fatherson the children,on the thirdand the fourthgenerations of those who hateMe,
"Be on your guardbeforehim and obeyhis voice;do not be rebellioustoward him, for he will not pardonyour transgression,sinceMy nameis in him.
for you shall not worshipanyothergod,for the LORD,whose nameis Jealous,is a jealousGod--
who keepslovingkindnessfor thousands,who forgivesiniquity,transgressionand sin;yet He will by nomeansleave[the guilty] unpunished,visitingthe iniquityof fatherson the childrenand on the grandchildrento the thirdand fourthgenerations."
So the [common] manhas beenhumbledAnd the man[of importance] has beenabased,But do not forgivethem.
When its limbsare dry,they are brokenoff; Womencome[and] makea firewith them, For they are not a peopleof discernment,Thereforetheir Makerwill not havecompassionon them. And their Creatorwill not be graciousto them.
"Getout of the way,turnasidefrom the path,Let us hearnomoreabout the HolyOneof Israel."
For thusthe LordGOD,the HolyOneof Israel,has said,"In repentanceand restyou will be saved,In quietnessand trustis your strength."But you were not willing,
But the LORDof hostswill be exaltedin judgment,And the holyGodwill showHimself holyin righteousness.
Then Mosessaidto Aaron,"It is whatthe LORDspoke,saying,By those who comenearMe I will be treatedas holy,And beforeallthe peopleI will be honored.'"So Aaron,therefore, keptsilent.
For I am the LORDyour God.Consecrateyourselves therefore, and be holy,for I am holy.And you shall not makeyourselvesuncleanwith anyof the swarmingthingsthat swarmon the earth.
For I am the LORDwho broughtyou up from the landof Egyptto be your God;thus you shall be holy,for I am holy.'"
"Speakto allthe congregationof the sonsof Israeland sayto them, 'You shall be holy,for I the LORDyour Godam holy.
Thus you are to be holyto Me, for I the LORDam holy;and I have setyou apartfrom the peoplesto be Mine.
You shall consecrateyourselves therefore and be holy,for I am the LORDyour God.
A jealousand avengingGodis the LORD;The LORDis avengingand wrathful.The LORDtakesvengeanceon His adversaries,And He reserveswrathfor His enemies.
[Your] eyesare toopureto approveevil,And You cannot lookon wickedness[with favor]. Whydo You lookwith favor On those who dealtreacherously?Why are You silentwhen the wickedswallowup Those morerighteousthanthey?
"No onecanservetwomasters;for eitherhe will hatethe oneand lovethe other,orhe will be devotedto oneand despisethe other.You cannotserveGodand wealth.
"The LORDdroveout from beforeus allthe peoples,even the Amoriteswho livedin the land.We alsowill servethe LORD,for He is our God."
"Nowtherefore, putawaythe foreigngodswhichare in your midst,and inclineyour heartsto the LORD,the Godof Israel."
Then she said,"Behold,your sister-in-lawhas gonebackto her peopleand her gods;returnafteryour sister-in-law."
"ThereforeI have swornto the houseof Elithat the iniquityof Eli'shouseshall not be atonedfor by sacrificeor offeringforever."
The menof Beth-shemeshsaid,"Whois ableto standbeforethe LORD,thisholyGod?And to whomshall He goup from us?"
