For the watersof Nimrimare desolate.Surelythe grassis withered,the tendergrassdiedout, There is nogreenthing.
There is an outcryin the streetsconcerningthe wine;Alljoyturnsto gloom.The gaietyof the earthis banished.
The newwinemourns,The vinedecays,Allthe merry-heartedsigh.
"It has been madea desolation,Desolate,it mournsbeforeMe; The wholelandhas been madedesolate,Becausenomanlaysit to heart.
Howlongis the landto mournAnd the vegetationof the countrysideto wither?For the wickednessof those who dwellin it, Animalsand birdshave been snatchedaway,Because[men] have said,"He will not seeour latterending."
"So gladnessand joyare takenawayFrom the fruitfulfield,even from the landof Moab.And I have made the wineto ceasefrom the winepresses;Noone will tread[them] with shouting,The shoutingwill not be shouts[of joy].
Thereforethe landmourns,And everyonewho livesin it languishesAlong with the beastsof the fieldand the birdsof the sky,And alsothe fishof the seadisappear.
Threshingfloorand winepresswill not feedthem, And the newwinewill failthem.
The vinedriesup And the figtreefails;The pomegranate,the palmalso,and the appletree,Allthe treesof the fielddryup. Indeed,rejoicingdriesup From the sonsof men.
Awake,drunkards,and weep;And wail,allyou winedrinkers,On accountof the sweetwineThat is cutofffrom your mouth.
The LORDwill answerand sayto His people,"Behold,I am going to sendyou grain,newwineand oil,And you will be satisfied[in full] with them; And I will neveragainmakeyou a reproachamong the nations.
Your strengthwill be spentuselessly,for your landwill not yieldits produceand the treesof the landwill not yieldtheir fruit.
Thoughthe figtreeshould not blossomAnd therebe nofruiton the vines,[Though] the yieldof the oliveshould failAnd the fieldsproducenofood,Though the flockshould be cutofffrom the foldAnd therebe nocattlein the stalls,
"I calledfor a droughton the land,on the mountains,on the grain,on the newwine,on the oil,on whatthe groundproduces,on men,on cattle,and on allthe laborof your hands."
