The peoplewho walkin darknessWill seea greatlight;Those who livein a darkland,The lightwill shineon them.
"[Man] putsan endto darkness,And to the farthestlimithe searchesout The rockin gloomand deepshadow.
TO SHINEUPON THOSEWHO SITIN DARKNESSAND THE SHADOWOF DEATH,To guideour feetinto the wayof peace."
"THE PEOPLEWHO WERE SITTINGIN DARKNESSSAWA GREATLIGHT,AND THOSEWHO WERE SITTINGIN THE LANDAND SHADOWOF DEATH,UPON THEM A LIGHTDAWNED."
"They did not say,'Whereis the LORDWho broughtus up out of the landof Egypt,Who ledus through the wilderness,Through a landof desertsand of pits,Through a landof droughtand of deepdarkness,Through a landthat noonecrossedAnd wherenomandwelt?'
"Have the gatesof deathbeen revealedto you, Or have you seenthe gatesof deepdarkness?
"For the morningis the sameto him as thickdarkness,For he is familiarwith the terrorsof thickdarkness.
For you have not cometo [a mountain] that can be touchedand to a blazingfire,and to darknessand gloomand whirlwind,
"Then I will turnyour festivalsinto mourningAnd allyour songsinto lamentation;And I will bringsackclothon everyone'sloinsAnd baldnesson everyhead.And I will makeit like [a time of] mourningfor an onlyson,And the endof it will be like a bitterday.
He who madethe Pleiadesand OrionAnd changesdeepdarknessinto morning,Who also darkensday[into] night,Who callsfor the watersof the seaAnd poursthem out on the surfaceof the earth,The LORDis His name.
A dayof darknessand gloom,A dayof cloudsand thickdarkness.As the dawnis spreadoverthe mountains,[So] there is a greatand mightypeople;There has neverbeen[anything] likeit, Norwill there be againafterit To the yearsof manygenerations.
"As a shepherdcaresfor his herdin the daywhen he is amonghis scatteredsheep,soI will carefor My sheepand will deliverthem from allthe placesto whichthey were scatteredon a cloudyand gloomyday.
"For the dayis near,Even the dayof the LORDis near;It will be a dayof clouds,A time[of doom] for the nations.
"For thisthe earthshall mournAnd the heavensabovebe dark,BecauseI have spoken,I have purposed,And I will not changeMy mind,norwill I turnfrom it."
He broughtthem out of darknessand the shadowof deathAnd broketheir bandsapart.
There were those who dweltin darknessand in the shadowof death,Prisonersin miseryand chains,
YetYou have crushedus in a placeof jackalsAnd coveredus with the shadowof death.
"My faceis flushedfrom weeping,And deepdarknessis on my eyelids,
"You camenearand stoodat the footof the mountain,and the mountainburnedwith fireto the [very] heartof the heavens:darkness,cloudand thickgloom.
"May that daybe darkness;Let not Godabovecarefor it, Norlightshineon it.
"[As for] that night,let darknessseizeit; Let it not rejoiceamong the daysof the year;Let it not comeinto the numberof the months.
"Thereis nodarknessor deepshadowWherethe workersof iniquitymay hidethemselves.
