In the sixhundredthyearof Noah'slife,in the secondmonth,on the seventeenthdayof the month,on the samedayallthe fountainsof the greatdeepburstopen,and the floodgatesof the skywere opened.
Waterwearsawaystones,Its torrentswashawaythe dustof the earth;So You destroyman'shope.
"It will be accomplishedbeforehis time,And his palmbranchwill not be green.
"They spendtheir daysin prosperity,And suddenlythey godownto Sheol.
"Are they as strawbeforethe wind,And like chaffwhich the stormcarriesaway?
"They are insignificanton the surfaceof the water;Their portionis cursedon the earth.They do not turntowardthe vineyards.
"They diein youth,And their life[perishes] among the cultprostitutes.
Howmuchmorethose who dwellin housesof clay,Whosefoundationis in the dust,Who are crushedbeforethe moth!
I say,"O my God,do not takeme awayin the midstof my days,Your yearsare throughout allgenerations.
But You, O God,will bringthem downto the pitof destruction;Menof bloodshedand deceitwill not liveout halftheir days.But I will trustin You.
You have sweptthem awaylikea flood,they fallasleep;In the morningthey are like grasswhich sproutsanew.
The fearof the LORDprolongslife,But the yearsof the wickedwill be shortened.
Do not be excessivelywickedand do not be a fool.Whyshould you diebeforeyour time?
Behold,the Lordhas a strongand mighty[agent]; As a stormof hail,a tempestof destruction,Like a stormof mightyoverflowingwaters,He has cast[it] downto the earthwith [His] hand.
