And Babylon,the beautyof kingdoms,the gloryof the Chaldeans'pride,Will be as when GodoverthrewSodomand Gomorrah.
that you will takeup thistauntagainstthe kingof Babylon,and say,"Howthe oppressorhas ceased,[And how] furyhas ceased!
and allthe kingsof the north,nearand far,onewith another;and allthe kingdomsof the earthwhichare upon the faceof the ground,and the kingof Sheshachshall drinkafterthem.
"Howthe cityof praisehas not been deserted,The townof My joy!
"Howthe hammerof the wholeearthHas been cutoffand broken!HowBabylonhas becomeAn objectof horroramong the nations!
At the shout,"Babylonhas been seized!"the earthis shaken,and an outcryis heardamong the nations.
"Babylonwill becomea heap[of ruins], a hauntof jackals,An objectof horrorand hissing,withoutinhabitants.
Allthe inhabitantsof the coastlandsAre appalledat you, And their kingsare horriblyafraid;They are troubledin countenance.
and whereverthe sonsof mendwell,[or] the beastsof the field,or the birdsof the sky,He has given[them] into your handand has caused you to ruleover them all.You are the headof gold.
it is you, O king;for you have becomegreatand grownstrong,and your majestyhas becomegreatand reachedto the skyand your dominionto the endof the earth.
"The kingreflectedand said,'Is thisnot Babylonthe great,whichI myselfhave builtas a royalresidenceby the mightof my powerand for the gloryof my majesty?'
"You shall becomea horror,a proverb,and a tauntamong allthe peoplewherethe LORDdrivesyou.
