"Behold,I have madeyou a new, sharpthreshingsledgewith double edges; You will threshthe mountainsand pulverize[them], And will makethe hillslike chaff.
"His underpartsare [like] sharppotsherds; He spreadsout [like] a threshingsledgeon the mire.
Then I beatthem fineas the dustbeforethe wind;I emptiedthem out as the mireof the streets.
The nationsrumbleon like the rumblingof manywaters,But He will rebukethem and they will fleefaraway,And be chasedlike chaffin the mountainsbeforethe wind,Or like whirlingdustbeforea gale.
O my threshed[people], and my afflictedof the threshingfloor!WhatI have heardfrom the LORDof hosts,The Godof Israel,I makeknownto you.
For dillis not threshedwith a threshingsledge,Noris the cartwheeldrivenovercummin; But dillis beatenout with a rod,and cumminwith a club.
But the multitudeof your enemieswill becomelike finedust,And the multitudeof the ruthlessoneslike the chaffwhich blowsaway; And it will happeninstantly, suddenly.
"I will laywastethe mountainsand hillsAnd witheralltheir vegetation;I will makethe riversinto coastlandsAnd dryup the ponds.
Oh,that You would rendthe heavens[and] comedown,That the mountainsmight quakeat Your presence--
[He says], "You are My war-club,[My] weaponof war;And with you I shatternations,And with you I destroykingdoms.
For thussaysthe LORDof hosts, the Godof Israel:"The daughterof Babylonis like a threshingfloorAt the timeit is stampedfirm;Yetin a littlewhilethe timeof harvestwill comefor her."
"For the mountainsI will takeup a weepingand wailing,And for the pasturesof the wildernessa dirge,Becausethey are laidwastesothat noonepassesthrough,And the lowingof the cattleis not heard;Boththe birdsof the skyand the beastshave fled;they are gone.
"I will makethe landa desolationand a waste, and the prideof her powerwill cease;and the mountainsof Israelwill be desolatesothat noonewill passthrough.
"Thenthe iron, the clay, the bronze, the silverand the goldwere crushedallat the sametimeand becamelike chafffrom the summerthreshingfloors;and the windcarriedthem away so that not a traceof them was found. But the stonethat struckthe statuebecamea greatmountainand filledthe wholeearth.
"Ariseand thresh, daughterof Zion,For your hornI will makeironAnd your hoofsI will makebronze,That you may pulverizemanypeoples,That you may devoteto the LORDtheir unjustgainAnd their wealthto the Lordof allthe earth.
The remnantof JacobWill be among the nations,AmongmanypeoplesLike a lionamong the beastsof the forest,Like a younglionamong flocksof sheep,Which, ifhe passesthrough,Tramplesdownand tears,And thereis noneto rescue.
In indignationYou marchedthrough the earth; In angerYou trampledthe nations.
Whatare you, O greatmountain?BeforeZerubbabel[you will become] a plain;and he will bringforththe topstonewith shoutsof "Grace, graceto it!"'"
but the hillcountryshall be yours. For though it is a forest, you shall clearit, and to its farthestbordersit shall be yours; for you shall driveout the Canaanites, eventhoughthey have chariotsof iron[and] thoughthey are strong."
