We have heardof the prideof Moab,an excessivepride;[Even] of his arrogance, pride, and fury; His idleboastsare false.
Thussaysthe LORD,"For threetransgressionsof Moaband for fourI will not revokeits [punishment], Becausehe burnedthe bonesof the kingof Edomto lime.
"Moabwill be destroyedfrom [being] a peopleBecausehe has becomearroganttowardthe LORD.
"Makehim drunk, for he has becomearroganttowardthe LORD;so Moabwill wallowin his vomit, and he alsowill becomea laughingstock.
"A swordagainstthe oraclepriests, and they will becomefools!A swordagainsther mightymen, and they will be shattered!
Causing the omensof boastersto fail,Makingfoolsout of diviners,Causing wisemento drawbackAnd turningtheir knowledgeinto foolishness,
"Your covenantwith deathwill be canceled,And your pactwith Sheolwill not stand;Whenthe overwhelmingscourgepassesthrough,Then you becomeits trampling[place].
Becauseyou have said,"We have madea covenantwith death,And with Sheolwe have madea pact. The overwhelmingscourgewill not reachus whenit passesby, For we have madefalsehoodour refugeand we have concealedourselves with deception."
The proudlookof manwill be abasedAnd the loftinessof manwill be humbled,And the LORDalonewill be exaltedin that day.
You younger men, likewise,be subjectto [your] elders;and allof you, clotheyourselves with humilitytoward one another, for GODIS OPPOSEDTO THE PROUD,BUT GIVESGRACETO THE HUMBLE.
"Proud,""Haughty,""Scoffer,"are his names,Who actswith insolentpride.
And he will spreadout his handsin the middleof it As a swimmerspreadsout [his hands] to swim,But [the Lord] will laylowhis pridetogetherwith the trickeryof his hands.
The oracleconcerning Moab.Surelyin a nightArof Moabis devastated[and] ruined;Surelyin a nightKirof Moabis devastated[and] ruined.
For the handof the LORDwill reston thismountain,And Moabwill be troddendownin his placeAs strawis troddendownin the waterof a manurepile.
"Howcan you say,We are mightywarriors,And menvaliantfor battle'?
