Miriamthe prophetess,Aaron'ssister,tookthe timbrelin her hand,and allthe womenwentout afterher with timbrelsand with dancing.
"Whydid you fleesecretlyand deceiveme, and did not tellme so that I might have sentyou awaywith joyand with songs,with timbreland with lyre;
"Tell[it] not in Gath,Proclaimit not in the streetsof Ashkelon,Orthe daughtersof the Philistineswill rejoice,The daughtersof the uncircumcisedwill exult.
And Davidwas dancingbeforethe LORDwith all[his] might,and Davidwas wearinga linenephod.
Then it happened[as] the arkof the LORDcameinto the cityof Davidthat Michalthe daughterof Saullookedout of the windowand sawKingDavidleapingand dancingbeforethe LORD;and she despisedhim in her heart.
Meanwhile, Davidand allthe houseof Israelwere celebratingbeforethe LORDwith allkinds of [instruments made of] firwood,and with lyres,harps,tambourines,castanetsand cymbals.
So Hilkiahthe priest,Ahikam,Achbor,Shaphan,and Asaiahwentto Huldahthe prophetess,the wifeof Shallumthe sonof Tikvah,the sonof Harhas,keeperof the wardrobe(now she livedin Jerusalemin the SecondQuarter); and they spoketo her.
Then Davidspoketo the chiefsof the Levitesto appointtheir relativesthe singers,with instrumentsof music,harps,lyres,loud-soundingcymbals,to raisesoundsof joy.
The childrenof Amram[were] Aaron,Mosesand Miriam.And the sonsof Aaron[were] Nadab,Abihu,Eleazarand Ithamar.
Remember,O my God,Tobiahand Sanballataccording to theseworksof theirs, and alsoNoadiahthe prophetessand the restof the prophetswhowere [trying] to frightenme.
Let them praiseHis namewith dancing;Let them singpraisesto Him with timbreland lyre.
PraiseHim with timbreland dancing;PraiseHim with stringedinstrumentsand pipe.
You have turnedfor me my mourninginto dancing;You have loosedmy sackclothand girdedme with gladness,
The Lordgivesthe command;The women who proclaimthe [good] tidingsare a greathost:
The singerswenton, the musiciansafter[them], In the midstof the maidensbeatingtambourines.
BlessGodin the congregations,[Even] the LORD,[you who are] of the fountainof Israel.
Raisea song,strikethe timbrel,The sweetsoundinglyrewith the harp.
His sisterstoodat a distanceto findout whatwould happento him.
A timeto weepand a timeto laugh;A timeto mournand a timeto dance.
"AgainI will buildyou and you will be rebuilt,O virginof Israel!Againyou will takeup your tambourines,And goforthto the dancesof the merrymakers.
"Indeed,I broughtyou up from the landof EgyptAnd ransomedyou from the houseof slavery,And I sentbeforeyou Moses,Aaronand Miriam.
Then Miriamand Aaronspokeagainst Mosesbecauseof the Cushitewomanwhomhe had married(for he had marrieda Cushitewoman);
and they said,"Has the LORDindeedspokenonlythrough Moses?Has He not spokenthrough us as well?"And the LORDheardit.
Then the sonsof Israel,the wholecongregation,cameto the wildernessof Zinin the firstmonth;and the peoplestayedat Kadesh.Now Miriamdiedthereand was buriedthere.
The nameof Amram'swifewas Jochebed,the daughterof Levi,whowas bornto Leviin Egypt;and she boreto Amram:Aaronand Mosesand their sisterMiriam.
And there was a prophetess,Annathe daughterof Phanuel,of the tribeof Asher.She was advancedin yearsand had livedwith [her] husbandsevenyearsafterher marriage,
Nowthis manhadfourvirgindaughterswho were prophetesses.
But everywomanwho has her headuncoveredwhile prayingorprophesyingdisgracesher head,for she is oneand the sameas the womanwhose head is shaved.
The womenare to keep silentin the churches;for they are not permittedto speak,but are to subjectthemselves, justas the Lawalsosays.
When Jephthahcameto his houseat Mizpah,behold,his daughterwas comingout to meethim with tambourinesand with dancing.Now she was his one[and] onlychild;besidesher he hadnosonordaughter.
and watch;and behold,ifthe daughtersof Shilohcomeout to takepartin the dances,then you shall comeout of the vineyardsand eachof you shall catchhis wifefrom the daughtersof Shiloh,and goto the landof Benjamin.
Now Deborah,a prophetess,the wifeof Lappidoth,was judgingIsraelat that time.
"Afterwardyou will cometo the hillof Godwherethe Philistinegarrisonis; and it shall be as soon as you have comethereto the city,that you will meeta groupof prophetscomingdownfrom the highplacewith harp,tambourine,flute,and a lyrebeforethem, and they will be prophesying.
It happenedas they were coming,when Davidreturnedfrom killingthe Philistine,that the womencameout of allthe citiesof Israel,singingand dancing,to meetKingSaul,with tambourines,with joyand with musicalinstruments.
