The LORDsaidto Moses,"Behold,you are about to liedownwith your fathers;and thispeoplewill ariseand playthe harlotwith the strangegodsof the land,into the midstof whichthey are going,and will forsakeMe and breakMy covenantwhichI have madewith them.
"As for you, you shall goto your fathersin peace;you will be buriedat a goodoldage.
Abrahambreathedhis lastand diedin a ripeoldage,an oldmanand satisfied[with life]; and he was gatheredto his people.
When the timefor Israelto diedrewnear,he calledhis sonJosephand saidto him, "Please,ifI have foundfavorin your sight,placenowyour handundermy thighand dealwith me in kindnessand faithfulness.Pleasedo not buryme in Egypt,
but when I liedownwith my fathers,you shall carryme out of Egyptand buryme in their burialplace."And he said,"I will doas you have said."
"Whenyour daysare completeand you liedownwith your fathers,I will raiseup your descendantafteryou, whowill comeforthfrom you, and I will establishhis kingdom.
"Otherwise it will comeabout, as soon as my lordthe kingsleepswith his fathers,that I and my sonSolomonwill be considered offenders."
He said,"I have not troubledIsrael,but you and your father'shouse[have], because you have forsakenthe commandmentsof the LORDand you have followedthe Baals.
He said,"I have beenveryzealousfor the LORD,the Godof hosts;for the sonsof Israelhave forsakenYour covenant,torndownYour altarsand killedYour prophetswith the sword.And I aloneam left;and they seekmy life,to takeit away."
becausethey did not obeythe voiceof the LORDtheir God,but transgressedHis covenant,[even] allthat Mosesthe servantof the LORDcommanded;they would neitherlistennordo[it].
In thosedaysHezekiahbecamemortallyill.And Isaiahthe prophetthe sonof Amozcameto him and saidto him, "Thussaysthe LORD,Setyour housein order,for you shall dieand not live.'"
Moreover,he madehighplacesin the mountainsof Judah,and caused the inhabitantsof Jerusalemto playthe harlotand ledJudahastray.
"His bonesare fullof his youthfulvigor,But it liesdownwith him in the dust.
Thus they becameuncleanin their practices,And playedthe harlotin their deeds.
For, behold,those who are farfrom You will perish;You have destroyedallthose who are unfaithfulto You.
So the nextdaythey roseearlyand offeredburntofferings,and broughtpeaceofferings;and the peoplesatdownto eatand to drink,and roseup to play.
otherwiseyou mightmakea covenantwith the inhabitantsof the landand they would playthe harlotwith their godsand sacrificeto their gods,and someone might inviteyou to eatof his sacrifice,
"You have not heard,you have not known.Evenfrom longagoyour earhas not been open,BecauseI knewthat you would dealverytreacherously;And you have been calleda rebelfrom birth.
not like the covenantwhichI madewith their fathersin the dayI tookthem by the handto bringthem out of the landof Egypt,My covenantwhichthey broke,although I was a husbandto them," declaresthe LORD.
"Perhapstheir supplicationwill comebeforethe LORD,and everyonewill turnfrom his evilway,for greatis the angerand the wraththat the LORDhas pronouncedagainstthispeople."
"But you trustedin your beautyand playedthe harlotbecauseof your fame,and you pouredout your harlotrieson everypasser-bywho might be [willing].
When the LORDfirstspokethrough Hosea,the LORDsaidto Hosea,"Go,taketo yourself a wifeof harlotryand [have] childrenof harlotry;for the landcommitsflagrantharlotry,forsakingthe LORD."
They speak[mere] words,With worthlessoathsthey makecovenants;And judgmentsproutslike poisonousweedsin the furrowsof the field.
if,instead, you rejectMy statutes,and ifyour soulabhorsMy ordinancesso as not to carryout allMy commandments,[and] so breakMy covenant,
"When you have seenit, you toowill be gatheredto your people,as Aaronyour brotherwas;
"For David,after he had servedthe purposeof Godin his owngeneration,fell asleep,and was laidamonghis fathersand underwentdecay;
"But I will surelyhideMy facein that daybecauseof allthe evilwhichthey will do,for they will turnto othergods.
"But Jeshurungrewfatand kicked--You are grownfat,thick,and sleek--Then he forsookGodwho madehim, And scornedthe Rockof his salvation.
"Then dieon the mountainwhereyou ascend,and be gatheredto your people,as Aaronyour brotherdiedon MountHorand was gatheredto his people,
So Mosesthe servantof the LORDdiedtherein the landof Moab,accordingto the wordof the LORD.
"Whenyou becomethe fatherof childrenand children'schildrenand have remainedlongin the land,and actcorruptly,and makean idolin the formof anything,and dothat whichis evilin the sightof the LORDyour God[so as] to provokeHim to anger,
BECAUSEHIS JUDGMENTSARE true AND RIGHTEOUS;for He has judgedthe greatharlotwhowas corruptingthe earthwith her immorality,and HE HAS AVENGEDTHE BLOODOF HIS BOND-SERVANTSON HER."
"Yet you have forsakenMe and servedothergods;thereforeI will nolongerdeliveryou.
Then the sonsof Israelagaindidevilin the sightof the LORD,servedthe Baalsand the Ashtaroth,the godsof Aram,the godsof Sidon,the godsof Moab,the godsof the sonsof Ammon,and the godsof the Philistines;thus they forsookthe LORDand did not serveHim.
Then the sonsof Israeldidevilin the sightof the LORDand servedthe Baals,
and they forsookthe LORD,the Godof their fathers,who had broughtthem out of the landof Egypt,and followedothergodsfrom [among] the godsof the peopleswhowere aroundthem, and bowedthemselves downto them; thus they provokedthe LORDto anger.
