ThenHazaelkingof Aramwentup and foughtagainstGathand capturedit, and Hazaelsethis faceto goup to Jerusalem.
Then Asatookallthe silverand the goldwhich were leftin the treasuriesof the houseof the LORDand the treasuriesof the king'shouse,and deliveredthem into the handof his servants.And KingAsasentthem to Ben-hadadthe sonof Tabrimmon,the sonof Hezion,kingof Aram,who livedin Damascus,saying,
"It shall comeabout, the one who escapesfrom the swordof Hazael,Jehushall putto death,and the one who escapesfrom the swordof Jehu,Elishashall putto death.
In thosedaysthe LORDbeganto cutoff[portions] from Israel;and Hazaeldefeatedthem throughoutthe territoryof Israel:
from the Jordaneastward,allthe landof Gilead,the Gaditesand the Reubenitesand the Manassites,from Aroer,whichis by the valleyof the Arnon,even Gileadand Bashan.
So the angerof the LORDwas kindledagainst Israel,and He gavethem continuallyinto the handof Hazaelkingof Aram,and into the handof Ben-hadadthe sonof Hazael.
Ahaztookthe silverand goldthat was foundin the houseof the LORDand in the treasuriesof the king'shouse,and senta presentto the kingof Assyria.
Now afterthisit cameabout that Daviddefeatedthe Philistinesand subduedthem and tookGathand its townsfrom the handof the Philistines.
and Beriahand Shema,whowere headsof fathers'[households] of the inhabitantsof Aijalon,whoputto flightthe inhabitantsof Gath;
then in that caselistento the wordof the LORD,O remnantof Judah.Thussaysthe LORDof hosts,the Godof Israel,"Ifyou reallysetyour mindto enterEgyptand goin to residethere,
"He will sethis faceto comewith the powerof his wholekingdom,bringing with him a proposalof peacewhich he will putinto effect;he will also givehim the daughterof womento ruinit. But she will not takea stand[for him] or be on his side.
The guiltofferingis like the sinoffering,there is onelawfor them; the priestwhomakesatonementwith it shall haveit.
Likewise, everygrain offeringthat is bakedin the ovenand everythingpreparedin a panor on a griddleshall belongto the priestwho presentsit.
"Allof them comefor violence.Their hordeof faces[moves] forward.They collectcaptiveslike sand.
"Thisshall be yours from the mostholy[gifts reserved] from the fire;everyofferingof theirs, even everygrain offeringand everysinofferingand everyguiltoffering,whichthey shall renderto Me, shall be mostholyfor you and for your sons.
Whenthe dayswere approachingfor His ascension,He was determinedto goto Jerusalem;
But they did not receiveHim, becauseHe was travelingtowardJerusalem.
So Davidaroseand crossedover,he and the sixhundredmenwhowere with him, to Achishthe sonof Maoch,kingof Gath.
