in beatings,in imprisonments,in tumults,in labors,in sleeplessness,in hunger,
and say,'Thussaysthe king,"Putthisman in prisonand feedhim sparinglywith breadand wateruntilI returnsafely."'"
Then Asawas angrywith the seerand puthim in prison,for he was enragedat him for this.And Asaoppressedsomeof the peopleat the sametime.
But He was piercedthroughfor our transgressions,He was crushedfor our iniquities;The chasteningfor our well-being[fell] upon Him, And by His scourgingwe are healed.
Then the wordof the LORDcameto Jeremiahthe secondtime,while he was stillconfinedin the courtof the guard,saying,
Then they tookJeremiahand casthim into the cistern[of] Malchijahthe king'sson,whichwas in the courtof the guardhouse;and they letJeremiahdownwith ropes.Now in the cisterntherewas nowaterbut onlymud,and Jeremiahsankinto the mud.
"Sonof man,I have appointedyou a watchmanto the houseof Israel;whenever you heara wordfrom My mouth,warnthem from Me.
He sentand had Johnbeheadedin the prison.
For when Herodhad Johnarrested,he boundhim and puthim in prisonbecauseof Herodias,the wifeof his brotherPhilip.
And Jesussaidto them, "The attendantsof the bridegroomcannotmournas longas the bridegroomis with them, can they? But the dayswill comewhenthe bridegroomis taken awayfrom them, and thenthey will fast.
Then,when they had fastedand prayedand laidtheir handson them, they sent them away.
But Jewscamefrom Antiochand Iconium,and having won overthe crowds,they stonedPauland draggedhim out of the city,supposinghim to be dead.
When they had appointedeldersfor them in everychurch,having prayedwith fasting,they commendedthem to the Lordin whomthey had believed.
But the Jews,becoming jealousand taking alongsomewickedmenfrom the market place,formed a moband setthe cityin an uproar;and attackingthe houseof Jason,they were seekingto bringthem out to the people.
"Thereforebe on the alert,rememberingthat nightand dayfor a period of three yearsI did not ceaseto admonisheachonewith tears.
And as a greatdissensionwas developing,the commanderwas afraidPaulwould be torn to piecesby them and orderedthe troopsto go downand take him away from them by force,and bringhim into the barracks.
he said,"I will give you a hearingafteryour accusersarrivealso,"giving ordersfor him to be keptin Herod'sPraetorium.
But after two yearshad passed,Felixwas succeededby PorciusFestus,and wishingto dothe Jewsa favor,FelixleftPaulimprisoned.
"And thisis justwhatI didin Jerusalem;not onlydid I lockup manyof the saintsin prisons,having receivedauthorityfrom the chief priests,but alsowhen they were being put to deathI castmy voteagainstthem.
And Paul[said], "I would wishto God,that whetherin a shortorlong time,not onlyyou, but alsoallwho hearme this day,might becomesuchas I am,exceptfor thesechains."
And he stayedtwofullyearsin his ownrented quartersand was welcomingallwho cameto him,
They laidhandson the apostlesand putthem in a publicjail.
But by the graceof GodI amwhatI am,and His gracetowardme did not provevain;but I laboredeven morethan allof them, yetnot I, but the graceof Godwith me.
To thispresenthourwe are bothhungryand thirsty,and are poorly clothed,and are roughly treated,and are homeless;
Stopdeprivingone another,exceptby agreementfor a time,sothat you may devote yourselvesto prayer,and cometogetheragainsothat Satanwill not temptyou becauseof your lack of self-control.
[I have been] in laborand hardship,throughmanysleepless nights,in hungerand thirst,oftenwithout food,in coldand exposure.
For thisreasonI, Paul,the prisonerof ChristJesusfor the sakeof you Gentiles--
"He may beathim fortytimes[but] nomore,sothat he does not beathim with manymorestripesthantheseand your brotheris not degradedin your eyes.
sothat my imprisonmentin [the cause of] Christhas becomewell knownthroughoutthe wholepraetorian guardand to everyoneelse,
For you recall,brethren,our laborand hardship,[how] workingnightand daysoas not to be a burdento anyof you, we proclaimedto you the gospelof God.
For it is for thiswe laborand strive,becausewe have fixed our hopeon the livingGod,whois the Saviorof allmen,especiallyof believers.
Thereforedo not be ashamedof the testimonyof our Lordorof me His prisoner,but join with [me] in sufferingfor the gospelaccordingto the powerof God,
for whichI suffer hardshipevento imprisonmentas a criminal;but the wordof Godis not imprisoned.
But you, be soberin all things,endure hardship,dothe workof an evangelist,fulfillyour ministry.
and othersexperiencedmockingsand scourgings,yes,alsochainsand imprisonment.
Obeyyour leadersand submit[to them], for they keep watchoveryour soulsas those who will givean account.Let them dothiswith joyand not with grief,for thiswould be unprofitablefor you.
Take noticethat our brotherTimothyhas been released,with whom,ifhe comessoon,I will seeyou.
Do not fearwhatyou are aboutto suffer.Behold,the devilis aboutto castsome of you into prison,sothat you will be tested,and you will havetribulationfor tendays.Be faithfuluntildeath,and I will giveyou the crownof life.
