The cartcameinto the fieldof Joshuathe Beth-shemiteand stoodtherewherethere[was] a largestone;and they splitthe woodof the cartand offeredthe cowsas a burntofferingto the LORD.
So Gadcameto Davidthat dayand saidto him, "Goup, erectan altarto the LORDon the threshingfloorof Araunahthe Jebusite."
Araunahsaidto David,"Let my lordthe kingtakeand offerup whatis goodin his sight.Look,the oxenfor the burntoffering,the threshingsledgesand the yokesof the oxenfor the wood.
Davidbuilttherean altarto the LORDand offeredburntofferingsand peaceofferings.Thus the LORDwas movedby prayerfor the land,and the plaguewas heldbackfrom Israel.
So he returnedfrom followinghim, and tookthe pairof oxenand sacrificedthem and boiledtheir fleshwith the implementsof the oxen,and gave[it] to the peopleand they ate.Then he aroseand followedElijahand ministeredto him.
You shall makean altarof earthfor Me, and you shall sacrificeon it your burntofferingsand your peaceofferings,your sheepand your oxen;in everyplacewhereI cause My nameto be remembered,I will cometo you and blessyou.
It cameabout the nextdaythat the peoplearoseearlyand builtan altarthereand offeredburntofferingsand peaceofferings.
and buildan altarto the LORDyour Godon the topof thisstrongholdin an orderlymanner,and takea secondbulland offera burntofferingwith the woodof the Asherahwhichyou shall cutdown."
Now behold,Saulwas comingfrom the fieldbehindthe oxen,and he said,"Whatis [the matter] with the peoplethat they weep?"So they relatedto him the wordsof the menof Jabesh.
for he said,'Pleaseletme go,sinceour familyhas a sacrificein the city,and my brotherhas commandedme to attend. And now,ifI have foundfavorin your sight,pleaselet me getawaythat I may seemy brothers.'For thisreasonhe has not cometo the king'stable."
Now [the people of] Beth-shemeshwere reapingtheir wheatharvestin the valley,and they raisedtheir eyesand sawthe arkand were gladto see[it].
and the goldenmice,[according] to the numberof allthe citiesof the Philistinesbelonging to the fivelords,bothof fortifiedcitiesand of countryvillages.The largestoneon whichthey setthe arkof the LORD[is a witness] to thisdayin the fieldof Joshuathe Beth-shemite.
