Surelythere was noone like Ahabwhosoldhimself to doevilin the sightof the LORD,becauseJezebelhis wifeincitedhim.
Omrididevilin the sightof the LORD,and actedmorewickedlythanallwho[were] beforehim.
He said,"I have not troubledIsrael,but you and your father'shouse[have], because you have forsakenthe commandmentsof the LORDand you have followedthe Baals.
for when Jezebeldestroyedthe prophetsof the LORD,Obadiahtooka hundredprophetsand hidthem by fiftiesin a cave,and providedthem with breadand water.)
Then Jezebelsenta messengerto Elijah,saying,"Somay the godsdoto me and evenmore,ifI do not makeyour lifeas the lifeof oneof them by tomorrowabout this time."
Ahabsaidto Elijah,"Have you foundme, O my enemy?"And he answered,"I have found[you], becauseyou have soldyourself to doevilin the sightof the LORD.
Jezebelhis wifesaidto him, "Do you nowreignoverIsrael?Arise,eatbread,and let your heartbe joyful;I will giveyou the vineyardof Naboththe Jezreelite."
He didevilin the sightof the LORDand walkedin the wayof his fatherand in the wayof his motherand in the wayof Jeroboamthe sonof Nebat,whocaused Israelto sin.
So he servedBaaland worshipedhim and provokedthe LORDGodof Israelto anger,according to allthat his fatherhad done.
Then they made their sonsand their daughterspassthrough the fire,and practiceddivinationand enchantments,and soldthemselves to doevilin the sightof the LORD,provokingHim.
Beforehim there was nokinglikehim whoturnedto the LORDwith allhis heartand with allhis souland with allhis might,according to allthe lawof Moses;nordid any likehim ariseafterhim.
When JoramsawJehu,he said,"Is it peace,Jehu?"And he answered,"Whatpeace,solongas the harlotriesof your motherJezebeland her witchcraftsare so many?"
When he camein, he ateand drank;and he said,"Seenowto thiscursedwomanand buryher, for she is a king'sdaughter."
"Did not Solomonkingof Israelsinregardingthesethings?Yet among the manynationsthere was nokinglikehim, and he was lovedby his God,and Godmadehim kingoverallIsrael;neverthelessthe foreignwomencaused evenhim to sin.
and you might takesomeof his daughtersfor your sons,and his daughtersmight playthe harlotwith their godsand cause your sons[also] to playthe harlotwith their gods.
The mouthof an adulteressis a deeppit;He who is cursedof the LORDwill fallinto it.
And I discoveredmorebitterthandeaththe womanwhoseheartis snaresand nets,whose handsare chains.Onewhois pleasingto Godwill escapefrom her, but the sinnerwill be capturedby her.
Thussaysthe LORD,"Whereis the certificateof divorceBy whichI have sentyour motheraway?Orto whomof My creditorsdid I sellyou? Behold,you were soldfor your iniquities,And for your transgressionsyour motherwas sentaway.
For thussaysthe LORD,"You were soldfor nothingand you will be redeemedwithoutmoney."
But the Jewswho disbelievedstirredup the mindsof the Gentilesand embitteredthem againstthe brethren.
And they stirredup the people,the eldersand the scribes,and they cameup to him and dragged him awayand broughthim beforethe Council.
I am speakingin human termsbecauseof the weaknessof your flesh.For justas you presentedyour membersas slavesto impurityand to lawlessness,resultingin [further] lawlessness,sonowpresentyour membersas slavesto righteousness,resultingin sanctification.
For we knowthat the Lawis spiritual,but I amof flesh,soldinto bondage to sin.
But I have[this] againstyou, that you toleratethe womanJezebel,who callsherselfa prophetess,and she teachesand leadsMy bond-servantsastrayso that they commit [acts of] immoralityand eatthings sacrificed to idols.
