And they sat down to eat a meal. And they lifted their eyes and looked and saw a company of Yishma‛ĕlites, coming from Gil‛aḏ with their camels, bearing spices, and balm, and myrrh, going to take them down to Mitsrayim.

And he fled with all that he had. And he rose up and passed over the river, and headed toward the mountains of Gil‛aḏ.


Then he took his brothers with him and pursued him for seven days’ journey, and he overtook him in the mountains of Gil‛aḏ.


And they took him and threw him into a pit. And the pit was empty, there was no water in it.


And men, Miḏyanite traders passed by, so they pulled Yosĕph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Yishma‛ĕlites for twenty pieces of silver. And they took Yosĕph to Mitsrayim.


And the Miḏanites had sold him in Mitsrayim to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard.


And Yosĕph had been taken down to Mitsrayim. And Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, a Mitsrian, bought him from the Yishma‛ĕlites who had taken him down there.


And their father Yisra’ĕl said to them, “If so, then do this: Take some of the best fruit of the land in your vessels and bring a present down for the man, a little balm and a little honey, spices and myrrh, nuts and almonds.


The runners went out, hastened by the sovereign’s command, and the decree was given out in the citadel of Shushan. The sovereign and Haman then sat down to drink, but the city of Shushan was in confusion.


Have all the workers of wickedness no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call on יהוה?

Go up to Gil‛aḏ and take balm, O maiden, the daughter of Mitsrayim. In vain you have used many remedies, there is no healing for you.


Is there no balm in Gil‛aḏ, is there no healer there? Why has the healing of the daughter of my people not come?


“And the east side is from between Ḥawran, and Dammeseq, and Gil‛aḏ, and the land of Yisra’ĕl; the Yardĕn, from the border to the eastern side of the sea you are to measure. This is the east side.


who are lying on beds of ivory, and are stretched out on your couches, and are eating lambs from the flock and calves from the midst of the stall,


who are drinking wine from bowls, and anoint with the finest ointments, yet they have not been pained over the breach of Yosĕph!


and Gil‛aḏ, and the border of the Geshurites, and of the Ma‛aḵathites, and all Mount Ḥermon, and all Bashan as far as Salḵah;
