Then Israel said to them: If it must needs be so, do what you will. Take of the best fruits of the land in your vessels, and carry down presents to the man, a little balm, and honey, and storax, myrrh, turpentine, and almonds.
And his servants said to him: Behold, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful. So let us put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes on our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: perhaps he will save our lives.
A passionate man stirreth up strifes: he that is patient appeaseth those that are stirred up.
Nor will he yield to any man's prayers, nor will he accept for satisfaction ever so many gifts.
Who can tell if God will turn, and forgive: and will turn away from his fierce anger, and we shall not perish?
With modesty admonishing them that resist the truth: if peradventure God may give them repentance to know the truth,
