At the same time Abimelech, and Phicol, the general of his army, said to Abraham: God is with thee in all that thou dost.
Now there was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: David prospering and growing always stronger and stronger, but the house of Saul decaying daily.
And I have been with thee wheresoever thou hast walked, and have slain all thy enemies from before thy face. And I have made thee a great man, like unto the name of the great ones that are on the earth.
And he put guards in Edom, and placed there a garrison: and all Edom was made to serve David. And the Lord preserved David in all enterprises he went about.
And David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and Syria served David under tribute. And the Lord preserved David in all his enterprises, whithersoever he went.
And the just man shall hold on his way: and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.
All the ways of the Lord are mercy and truth, to them that seek after his covenant and his testimonies.
But the path of the just, as a shining light, goeth forwards and increaseth even to perfect day.
His empire shall be multiplied, and there shall be no end of peace. He shall sit upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom: to establish it and strengthen it with judgment and with justice, from henceforth and for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Who is left among you, that saw this house in its first glory? and how do you see it now? is it not in comparison to that as nothing in your eyes?
And Saul feared David, because the Lord was with him, and was departed from himself.
And David went out to whatsoever business Saul sent him, and he behaved himself prudently. And Saul set him over the soldiers; and he was acceptable in the eyes of all the people, and especially in the eyes of Saul's servants.
