And Joab falling down to the ground upon his face. Adored, and blessed the king. And Joab said: This day thy servant hath understood that I have found grace in thy sight, my lord, O king; for thou hast fulfilled the request of thy servant.
And the king was struck sad. Yet because of his oath, and because of them that were with him at table, he would not displease her:
As the Lord liveth who is the saviour of Israel, if it was done by Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. In this none of the people gainsaid him.
