And he turned aside[H8799] H3427, and sat down[H8799] .

² H3947And he took[H8799] H6235tenH582menH2205of the eldersH5892of the cityH559, and said[H8799] H3427, Sit ye down[H8798] H3427here. And they sat down[H8799] .

³ H559And he said[H8799] H1350unto the kinsman[H8802] H5281, NaomiH7725, that is come again[H8804] H7704out of the countryH4124of MoabH4376, selleth[H8804] H2513a parcelH7704of landH251, which was our brotherH458Elimelech's:

⁴ H559And I thought[H8804] H1540to advertise[H8799] H241 H559thee, saying[H8800] H7069, Buy[H8798] H3427it before the inhabitants[H8802] H2205, and before the eldersH5971of my peopleH1350. If thou wilt redeem[H8799] H1350it, redeem[H8798] H1350it : but if thou wilt not redeem[H8799] H5046it, then tell[H8685] H3045me, that I may know[H8799] H1350: for there is none to redeem[H8800] H2108it besideH310thee; and I am afterH559thee. ⁵ H559Then said[H8799] H1162BoazH3117, What dayH7069thou buyest[H8800] H7704the fieldH3027of the handH5281of NaomiH7069, thou must buy[H8804] H7327it also of RuthH4125the MoabitessH802, the wifeH4191of the dead[H8801] H6965, to raise up[H8687] H8034the nameH4191of the dead[H8801] H5159upon his inheritance.

⁶ H1350And the kinsman[H8802] H559said[H8799] H3201, I cannot[H8799] H1350redeem[H8800] H7843it for myself, lest I mar[H8686] H5159mine own inheritanceH1350: redeem[H8798] H1353thou my rightH3201to thyself; for I cannot[H8799] H1350redeem[H8800]  it .

⁷ H6440Now this was the manner in former timeH3478in IsraelH1353concerning redeemingH8545and concerning changingH6965, for to confirm[H8763] H1697all thingsH376; a manH8025plucked off[H8804] H5275his shoeH5414, and gave[H8804] H7453it to his neighbourH8584: and this was a testimonyH3478in Israel.

⁸ H1350Therefore the kinsman[H8802] H559said[H8799] H1162unto BoazH7069, Buy[H8798] H8025it for thee. So he drew off[H8799] H5275his shoe.

⁹ H1162And BoazH559said[H8799] H2205unto the eldersH5971, and unto all the peopleH5707, Ye are witnessesH3117this dayH7069, that I have bought[H8804] H458all that was Elimelech'sH3630, and all that was Chilion'sH4248and Mahlon'sH3027, of the handH5281of Naomi.

¹⁰ H7327Moreover RuthH4125the MoabitessH802, the wifeH4248of MahlonH7069, have I purchased[H8804] H802to be my wifeH6965, to raise up[H8687] H8034the nameH4191of the dead[H8801] H5159upon his inheritanceH8034, that the nameH4191of the dead[H8801] H3772be not cut off[H8735] H5973from amongH251his brethrenH8179, and from the gateH4725of his placeH5707: ye are witnessesH3117this day.

¹⁴ H802And the womenH559said[H8799] H5281unto NaomiH1288, Blessed[H8803] H3068be the LORDH7673, which hath not left[H8689] H3117thee this dayH1350without a kinsman[H8802] H8034, that his nameH7121may be famous[H8735] H3478in Israel.

¹⁵ H7725And he shall be unto thee a restorer[H8688] H5315of thy lifeH3557, and a nourisher[H8771] H7872of thine old ageH3618: for thy daughter in lawH157, which loveth[H8804] H2896thee, which is betterH7651to thee than sevenH1121sonsH3205, hath born[H8804]  him.

¹⁶ H5281And NaomiH3947took[H8799] H3206the childH7896, and laid[H8799] H2436it in her bosomH539, and became nurse[H8802]  unto it.

¹⁷ H7934And the women her neighboursH7121gave[H8799] H8034it a nameH559, saying[H8800] H1121, There is a sonH3205born[H8795] H5281to NaomiH7121; and they called[H8799] H8034his nameH5744ObedH1: he is the fatherH3448of JesseH1, the fatherH1732of David.
