Rachel saw that she was not giving Jacob any children. Rachel became jealous of her sister Leah. So Rachel said to Jacob, “Give me children or I will die!”


But Rachel was having much trouble with this birth. She was having great pain. Rachel’s nurse saw this and said, “Don’t be afraid Rachel. You are giving birth to another son.”


Rachel was buried on the road to Ephrath. (Ephrath is Bethlehem.)


Jacob and Rachel’s sons were Joseph and Benjamin.


But Jacob said, “I will not let Benjamin go with you. His brother is dead, and he is the only son left from my wife Rachel. It would kill me if anything happened to him during the trip to Egypt. You would send me to the grave [244] a very sad, old man.”


Jacob did not send Benjamin. (Benjamin was Joseph’s only full brother. [243])Jacob was afraid that something bad might happen to Benjamin.


I pray that God All-Powerful will help you when you stand before the governor. I pray that he will let Benjamin, and also Simeon, come back safely. If not, I will again be sad from losing my son.”


“Benjamin is like a hungry wolf. In the morning he kills and eats. In the evening he shares what is left.”


Jabez was a very good man. He was better than his brothers. His mother said, “I have named him Jabez [38] because I was in much pain when I had him.”

God, reach out to the son\par who stood by your right side.\par Reach out to the son you raised.\par

Those children say to their mothers,\par “Where is bread and wine?”\par They ask this question as they die.\par They die on their mother’s laps.\par


But God said to that man, ‘Foolish man! Tonight you will die. So what about the things you prepared for yourself? Who will get those things now?’


Jesus shouted, “Father, I give you my life.” {\cf2\super [382]} After Jesus said this, he died.
