But will God indeed live on earth? Even heaven, the highest heaven, cannot contain you, much less this temple I have built.


Then King David rose to his feet and said, ‘Listen to me, my brothers and my people. It was in my heart to build a house as a resting place for the ark of the Lord’s covenant  and as a footstool  for our God. I had made preparations to build,


The temple that I am building will be great, for our God is greater than any of the gods.


But will God indeed live on earth with humans? Even heaven, the highest heaven, cannot contain you, much less this temple I have built.


For the High and Exalted One, who lives for ever, whose name is holy,  says this: ‘I live in a high and holy place, and with the oppressed and lowly of spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the oppressed.


The glory of Lebanon will come to you   – its pine, elm, and cypress together   – to beautify the place of my sanctuary, and I will glorify my dwelling place.


Can a person hide in secret places where I cannot see him? ’   #– #the Lord’s declaration. ‘Do I not fill the heavens and the earth? ’   #– #the Lord’s declaration.


‘My name will be great among the nations,  from the rising of the sun to its setting. Incense  and pure offerings will be presented in my name in every place because my name will be great among the nations,’  says the Lord of Armies.


I tell you that something greater than the temple is here.


He replied to them, ‘Do you see all these things? Truly I tell you, not one stone will be left here on another that will not be thrown down.’


The God who made the world and everything in it   #– #he is Lord of heaven and earth   #– #does not live in shrines made by hands.
