Psalm 89 - Easy To Read Version Easy To Read Version
Psalm 89

I will sing forever about the Lord’s love.\par I will sing about his loyalty\par forever and ever!\par

Lord, I truly believe your love is forever.\par Your loyalty continues like the skies!\par

God said,\par “I made an agreement with my chosen king.\par I made a promise to my servant, David:\par

David, I will make your family\par continue forever.\par I will make your kingdom continue\par forever and ever.”\par \i (SELAH {\cf2\super [504]})\i0 \par

Lord, you do amazing things.\par The heavens praise you for this.\par People can depend on you.\par The assembly of holy ones\par sing about this.\par

No one in heaven is equal to the Lord.\par None of the “gods” can compare to the Lord.\par

God meets together with the holy ones.\par Those angels are all around him.\par They fear and respect God.\par They stand in awe of him.\par

Lord God All-Powerful,\par there is no one like you.\par We can trust you completely.\par

You proudly rule the sea.\par You can calm its angry waves.\par

God, you defeated Rahab. {\cf2\super [505]} \par You scattered your enemies\par with your own powerful arm.\par

Everything in heaven and earth\par belong to you, God.\par You made the world and everything in it.\par

You created everything north and south.\par Mount Tabor and Mount Hermon\par sing praises to your name.\par

God, you have the power!\par Your power is great!\par The victory is yours!\par

Your kingdom is built on truth and justice.\par Love and faithfulness are servants\par before your throne.\par

God, your loyal followers are truly happy.\par They live in the light of your kindness.\par

Your name always makes them happy.\par They praise your goodness.\par

You are their amazing strength.\par Their power comes from you.\par

Lord, you are our Protector.\par The Holy One of Israel is our King.\par

You spoke to your followers in a vision\par and said,\par “I chose a young man from the crowd.\par And I made that young man important.\par I made that young soldier strong.\par

I found my servant David.\par And I anointed {\cf2\super [506]} him with my special oil.\par

I supported David with my right arm.\par And with my power, I made him strong.\par

The enemy could not defeat the\par chosen king.\par Wicked people could not defeat him.\par

I finished his enemies.\par I defeated the people who hated\par my chosen king.\par

I will always love and support\par my chosen king.\par I will always make him strong.\par

I put my chosen king in charge of the sea.\par He will control the rivers.\par

He will say to me,\par ‘You are my father.\par You are my God, my Rock, {\cf2\super [507]} my Savior.’\par

And I will make him my firstborn {\cf2\super [508]} son.\par He will be the great king on earth.\par

My love will protect the chosen king forever.\par My agreement with him will never end.\par

His family will continue forever,\par his kingdom as long as the heavens.\par

If his descendants {\cf2\super [509]} quit following my law,\par and if they quit obeying my commands,\par then I will punish them.\par

If the chosen king’s descendants {\cf2\super [510]} break my laws and ignore my commands,\par

then I will punish them very hard.\par

But I will never take my love away\par from those people.\par I will always be loyal to them.\par

I will not break my agreement with David.\par I will not change our agreement.\par

By my holiness, I made a promise to him.\par And I would not lie to David!\par

David’s family will continue forever.\par His kingdom will last as long as the sun.\par

It will continue forever, like the moon.\par The skies are the proof of the agreement.\par That agreement can be trusted.”\par \i (SELAH {\cf2\super [511]})\i0 \par

But God, you became angry\par at your chosen king, {\cf2\super [512]} \par and you left him all alone.\par

You rejected your agreement.\par You threw the king’s crown into the dirt.\par

You pulled down the walls of the king’s city.\par You destroyed all his fortresses.\par

People passing by steal things from him.\par His neighbors laugh at him.\par

You made all the king’s enemies happy.\par You let his enemies win the war.\par

God, you helped them defend themselves.\par You did not help your king win the battle.\par

You didn’t let him win.\par You threw his throne to the ground.\par

You cut his life short.\par You shamed him.\par \i (SELAH {\cf2\super [513]})\i0 \par

Lord, how long will this continue?\par Will you ignore us forever?\par Will your anger burn like a fire forever?\par

Remember how short my life is:\par You created us to live a short life,\par and then die.\par

No person will live and never die.\par No person will escape the grave.\par \i (SELAH {\cf2\super [514]})\i0 \par

-51 God, where is the love you showed\par in the past?\par You promised David that you would be\par loyal to his family.\par

Bless the Lord forever!\par
