Now the people of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the Lord.


How the Lord in his anger has humiliated daughter Zion! He has thrown down from heaven to earth the splendor of Israel; he has not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger.


then I will thrust you down with those who descend into the Pit, to the people of long ago, and I will make you live in the world below, among primeval ruins, with those who go down to the Pit, so that you will not be inhabited or have a place in the land of the living.


All this is in order that no trees by the waters may grow to lofty height or set their tops among the clouds and that no trees that drink water may reach up to them in height. For all of them are handed over to death, to the world below; along with mortals, with those who go down to the Pit.


Mortal, wail over the hordes of Egypt and send them down, with Egypt and the daughters of majestic nations, to the world below, with those who go down to the Pit.


Elam is there and all its hordes around its grave, all of them killed, fallen by the sword, who went down uncircumcised into the world below, who spread terror in the land of the living. They bear their shame with those who go down to the Pit.


Though you soar aloft like the eagle, though your nest is set among the stars, from there I will bring you down, says the Lord.


Truly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.


And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.


When they reached Capernaum, the collectors of the temple tax came to Peter and said, “Does your teacher not pay the temple tax?”


He left Nazareth and made his home in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali,


When he entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, appealing to him


And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will be brought down to Hades.


For all who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”


In Hades, where he was being tormented, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far away with Lazarus by his side.


He said to them, “Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, ‘Doctor, cure yourself!’ And you will say, ‘Do here also in your hometown the things that we have heard you did at Capernaum.’ ”


For you will not abandon my soul to Hades or let your Holy One experience corruption.


Foreseeing this, David spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, saying, ‘He was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh experience corruption.’


Likewise, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which, in the same manner as they, indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural lust, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.


and the Living One. I was dead, and see, I am alive forever and ever, and I have the keys of Death and of Hades.


and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city that is prophetically called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.


And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and all were judged according to what they had done.


I looked, and there was a pale green horse! Its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed with him; they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, famine, and pestilence and by the wild animals of the earth.
