¹ A [good] nameis to be moredesiredthangreatwealth,Favoris betterthansilverand gold.

² The richand the poorhavea commonbond,The LORDis the makerof them all.

³ The prudentseesthe eviland hideshimself, But the naivegoon, and are punishedfor it.

⁴ The rewardof humility[and] the fearof the LORDAre riches,honorand life.

⁵ Thorns[and] snaresare in the wayof the perverse;He who guardshimselfwill be farfrom them.

⁶ Trainup a childin the wayhe should go, Evenwhenhe is oldhe will not departfrom it.

⁷ The richrulesover the poor,And the borrower[becomes] the lender'sslave.

⁸ He who sowsiniquitywill reapvanity,And the rodof his furywill perish.

⁹ He who is generouswill be blessed,For he givessomeof his foodto the poor.

¹⁰ Driveout the scoffer,and contentionwill goout, Even strifeand dishonorwill cease.

¹¹ He who lovespurityof heart[And] whose speechis gracious,the kingis his friend.

¹² The eyesof the LORDpreserveknowledge,But He overthrowsthe wordsof the treacherousman.

¹³ The sluggardsays,"There is a lionoutside;I will be killedin the streets!"

¹⁴ The mouthof an adulteressis a deeppit;He who is cursedof the LORDwill fallinto it.

¹⁵ Foolishnessis boundup in the heartof a child;The rodof disciplinewill removeit farfrom him.

¹⁶ He who oppressesthe poorto makemorefor himself Or who givesto the rich,[will] only[come to] poverty.

¹⁷ Inclineyour earand hearthe wordsof the wise,And applyyour mindto my knowledge;

¹⁸ For it will be pleasantifyou keepthem withinyou, That they may be readyon your lips.

¹⁹ So that your trustmay be in the LORD,I have taughtyou today,evenyou.

²⁰ Have I not writtento you excellentthingsOf counselsand knowledge,

²¹ To make you knowthe certaintyof the wordsof truthThat you may correctlyanswerhim who sentyou?

²² Do not robthe poorbecausehe is poor,Or crushthe afflictedat the gate;

²³ For the LORDwill pleadtheir caseAnd takethe lifeof those who robthem.

²⁴ Do not associatewith a man[given] to anger;Or gowith a hot-temperedman,

²⁵ Oryou will learnhis waysAnd finda snarefor yourself.

²⁶ Do not be among those who givepledges,Among those who becomeguarantorsfor debts.

²⁷ Ifyou havenothingwith which to pay,Whyshould he takeyour bedfrom underyou?

²⁸ Do not movethe ancientboundaryWhichyour fathershave set.

²⁹ Do you seea manskilledin his work?He will standbeforekings;He will not standbeforeobscuremen.
