When there are manywords,transgressionis unavoidable,But he who restrainshis lipsis wise.
The wiseof heartwill receivecommands,But a babblingfoolwill be ruined.
An evilmanis ensnaredby the transgressionof his lips,But the righteouswill escapefrom trouble.
The soulof the sluggardcravesand [gets] nothing,But the soulof the diligentis madefat.
In the mouthof the foolishis a rodfor [his] back,But the lipsof the wisewill protectthem.
Deathand lifeare in the powerof the tongue,And those who loveit will eatits fruit.
A fool'smouthis his ruin,And his lipsare the snareof his soul.
He who goesabout as a slandererrevealssecrets,Therefore do not associatewith a gossip.

Ifanyonethinkshimself to be religious,and yet does not bridlehis tonguebut deceiveshis [own] heart,this man'sreligionis worthless.
