"Did not your fathersdothe same,so that our Godbroughton us and on thiscityallthistrouble?Yet you are addingto the wrathon Israelby profaningthe sabbath."
We also placedourselves underobligationto contributeyearlyone thirdof a shekelfor the serviceof the houseof our God:
The LORDspoketo Moses,saying,
"But ifyou do not listento Me to keepthe sabbathdayholyby not carryinga loadand comingin through the gatesof Jerusalemon the sabbathday,then I will kindlea firein its gatesand it will devourthe palacesof Jerusalemand not be quenched."'"
"So the LORDwas nolongerableto endure[it], becauseof the evilof your deeds,becauseof the abominationswhichyou have committed;thus your landhas becomea ruin,an objectof horrorand a curse,withoutan inhabitant,as [it is] thisday.
"Becauseyou have burnedsacrificesand have sinnedagainst the LORDand not obeyedthe voiceof the LORDor walkedin His law,His statutesor His testimonies,thereforethiscalamityhas befallenyou, as [it has] thisday."
"Have you forgottenthe wickednessof your fathers,the wickednessof the kingsof Judah,and the wickednessof their wives,your own wickedness,and the wickednessof your wives,whichthey committedin the landof Judahand in the streetsof Jerusalem?
They will also stripyou of your clothesand takeaway your beautifuljewels.
"She did not forsakeher harlotriesfrom [the time in] Egypt;for in her youthmen had lainwith her, and they handledher virginbosomand pouredout their luston her.
Ifalso afterthesethingsyou do not obeyMe, then I will punishyou seventimesmorefor your sins.
then I will actwith wrathfulhostilityagainstyou, and I, evenI, will punishyou seventimesfor your sins.
saying,"Whenwill the newmoonbe over,So that we may sellgrain,And the sabbath,that we may openthe wheat[market], To makethe bushelsmallerand the shekelbigger,And to cheatwith dishonestscales,
"Now behold,you have risenup in your fathers'place,a broodof sinfulmen,to addstillmoreto the burningangerof the LORDagainstIsrael.
