"[This] shall be a permanentstatutefor you: in the seventhmonth,on the tenthday of the month,you shall humbleyour soulsand not doanywork,whether the native,or the alienwho sojournsamongyou;
Allthe menof Israelassembledthemselves to KingSolomonat the feast,in the monthEthanim,whichis the seventhmonth.
Now when the seventhmonthcame,and the sonsof Israel[were] in the cities,the peoplegatheredtogether as onemanto Jerusalem.
Then I proclaimeda fastthereat the riverof Ahava,that we might humbleourselves beforeour Godto seekfrom Him a safejourneyfor us, our littleones,and allour possessions.
But as for me, when they were sick,my clothingwas sackcloth;I humbledmy soulwith fasting,And my prayerkept returningto my bosom.
When I weptin my soulwith fasting,It becamemy reproach.
On the firstdayyou shall have a holyassembly,and [another] holyassemblyon the seventhday;noworkat allshall be doneon them, exceptwhatmust be eatenby everyperson,that alonemay be preparedby you.
but the seventhdayis a sabbathof the LORDyour God;[in it] you shall not doanywork,you or your sonor your daughter,your maleor your femaleservantor your cattleor your sojournerwhostays with you.
"Aaronshall makeatonementon its hornsoncea year;he shall makeatonementon it with the bloodof the sinofferingof atonementoncea yearthroughout your generations.It is mostholyto the LORD."
Therefore you are to observethe sabbath,for it is holyto you. Everyone who profanesit shall surelybe putto death;for whoeverdoesanyworkon it, that personshall be cutofffrom amonghis people.
For sixdaysworkmay be done,but on the seventhdaythere is a sabbathof completerest,holyto the LORD;whoeverdoesanyworkon the sabbathdayshall surelybe putto death.
"Ifbecauseof the sabbath,you turnyour footFrom doingyour [own] pleasureon My holyday,And callthe sabbatha delight,the holy[day] of the LORDhonorable,And honorit, desistingfrom your [own] ways,From seekingyour [own] pleasureAnd speaking[your own] word,
Whyhave we fastedand You do not see?[Why] have we humbledourselvesand You do not notice?'Behold,on the dayof your fastyou find[your] desire,And drivehardallyour workers.
"Is it a fastlike thiswhich I choose,a dayfor a manto humblehimself?Is it for bowingone's headlike a reedAnd for spreadingout sackclothand ashesas a bed? Will you callthisa fast,even an acceptabledayto the LORD?
Then he saidto me, "Do not be afraid,Daniel,for from the firstdaythat you setyour hearton understanding[this] and on humblingyourself beforeyour God,your wordswere heard,and I have comein response to your words.
I did not eatany tastyfood,nordid meator wineentermy mouth,nordid I useany ointmentat all untilthe entirethreeweekswere completed.
On thissamedayyou shall makea proclamationas well; you are to havea holyconvocation.You shall donolaboriouswork.It is to be a perpetualstatutein allyour dwellingplacesthroughout your generations.
For sixdaysworkmay be done,but on the seventhdaythere is a sabbathof completerest,a holyconvocation.You shall not doanywork;it is a sabbathto the LORDin allyour dwellings.
For sevendaysyou shall presentan offeringby fireto the LORD.On the eighthdayyou shall havea holyconvocationand presentan offeringby fireto the LORD;it is an assembly.You shall donolaboriouswork.
You shall then sounda ram'shornabroad on the tenthday of the seventhmonth;on the dayof atonementyou shall sounda hornallthrough your land.
It is a perpetualstatutethroughout your generationsin allyour dwellings:you shall not eatanyfator anyblood.'"
Then on the tenthday of thisseventhmonthyou shall havea holyconvocation,and you shall humbleyourselves;you shall not doanywork.
When considerabletimehad passedand the voyagewas nowdangerous,sinceeventhe fastwas alreadyover,Paul[began] to admonishthem,
But ifwe judgedourselvesrightly, we would not be judged.
For the one whohas enteredHis resthas himselfalsorestedfrom his works,as Goddid from His.
They gatheredto Mizpah,and drewwaterand pouredit out beforethe LORD,and fastedon that dayand saidthere,"We have sinnedagainst the LORD."And Samueljudgedthe sonsof Israelat Mizpah.
