"His angerhas tornme and huntedme down,He has gnashedat me with His teeth;My adversaryglaresat me.
"His troopscometogether,And buildup their wayagainstme And camparoundmy tent.
"He sucksthe poisonof cobras;The viper'stongueslayshim.
"Let his own eyesseehis decay,And let him drinkof the wrathof the Almighty.
"Terrorsare turnedagainstme; They pursuemy honoras the wind,And my prosperityhas passedawaylike a cloud.
"For calamityfrom Godis a terrorto me, And becauseof His majestyI candonothing.
Should I lieconcerningmy right?My woundis incurable,[though I am] withouttransgression.'
"Have I sinned?Whathave I doneto You, O watcherof men?Whyhave You setme as Your target,So that I ama burdento myself?
"For He bruisesme with a tempestAnd multipliesmy woundswithoutcause.
Answerme quickly,O LORD,my spiritfails;Do not hideYour facefrom me, Or I will becomelikethose who godownto the pit.
He sentout His arrows,and scatteredthem, And lightningflashesin abundance,and routedthem.
For You will makethem turntheir back;You will aimwith Your bowstringsat their faces.
For Your arrowshave sunkdeepinto me, And Your handhas presseddownon me.
Thereis nosoundnessin my fleshbecauseof Your indignation;Thereis nohealthin my bonesbecauseof my sin.
Your arrowsare sharp;The peoplesfallunderYou; [Your arrows are] in the heartof the King'senemies.
He has also preparedfor Himself deadlyweapons;He makesHis arrowsfieryshafts.
The heartknowsits ownbitterness,And a strangerdoes not shareits joy.
The spiritof a mancan endurehis sickness,But [as for] a brokenspiritwhocan bearit?
"As oftenas it passesthrough,it will seizeyou; For morningafter morningit will passthrough,[anytime] during the dayor night,And it will be sheerterrorto understandwhatit means."
He has bentHis bowlike an enemy;He has setHis righthandlike an adversaryAnd slainallthat were pleasantto the eye;In the tentof the daughterof ZionHe has pouredout His wrathlike fire.
Surelyagainst me He has turnedHis handRepeatedlyallthe day.
At the ninthhourJesuscriedout with a loudvoice,"ELOI,ELOI,LAMASABACHTHANI?"whichis translated,"MY GOD,MY GOD,WHYHAVE YOU FORSAKENME?"
Therefore,knowingthe fearof the Lord,we persuademen,but we are mademanifestto God;and I hopethat we are made manifestalsoin your consciences.
I will make My arrowsdrunkwith blood,And My swordwill devourflesh,With the bloodof the slainand the captives,From the long-hairedleadersof the enemy.'
