"He has walledup my wayso that I cannotpass,And He has putdarknesson my paths.
But I am not silencedby the darkness,Nordeep gloom[which] coversme.
"[Why is light given] to a manwhosewayis hidden,And whom Godhas hedgedin?
"WhenI expectedgood,then evilcame;When I waitedfor light,then darknesscame.
You have removedmy acquaintancesfarfrom me; You have mademe an objectof loathingto them; I am shutup and cannotgoout.
The wayof the wickedis like darkness;They do not knowover whatthey stumble.
Whois among you that fearsthe LORD,That obeysthe voiceof His servant,That walksin darknessand hasnolight?Let him trustin the nameof the LORDand relyon his God.
Thereforejusticeis farfrom us, And righteousnessdoes not overtakeus; We hopefor light,but behold,darkness,For brightness,but we walkin gloom.
Givegloryto the LORDyour God,BeforeHe bringsdarknessAnd beforeyour feetstumbleOn the duskymountains,And while you are hopingfor lightHe makesit into deepdarkness,[And] turns[it] into gloom.
"Thereforetheir waywill be like slipperypathsto them, They will be drivenawayinto the gloomand falldownin it; For I will bringcalamityupon them, The yearof their punishment,"declaresthe LORD.
He has besiegedand encompassedme with bitternessand hardship.
He has walledme in so that I cannotgoout; He has mademy chainheavy.
He has blockedmy wayswith hewnstone;He has mademy pathscrooked.
"Therefore,behold,I will hedgeup her waywith thorns,And I will builda wallagainst her so that she cannotfindher paths.
"For she does not knowthat it was I who gaveher the grain,the newwineand the oil,And lavishedon her silverand gold,[Which] they usedfor Baal.
ThenJesusagainspoketo them, saying,"I amthe Lightof the world;he who followsMe will not walkin the darkness,but will havethe Lightof life."
But when they criedout to the LORD,He putdarknessbetweenyou and the Egyptians,and broughtthe seaupon them and coveredthem; and your own eyessawwhatI didin Egypt.And you livedin the wildernessfor a longtime.
