becausethey have forsakenMe, and have worshipedAshtoreththe goddessof the Sidonians,Chemoshthe godof Moab,and Milcomthe godof the sonsof Ammon;and they have not walkedin My ways,doingwhatis rightin My sightand [observing] My statutesand My ordinances,as his fatherDavid[did].
ThenSolomonbuilta highplacefor Chemoshthe detestableidolof Moab,on the mountainwhichis eastof Jerusalem,and for Molechthe detestableidolof the sonsof Ammon.
"He will giveup Israelon accountof the sinsof Jeroboam,whichhe committedand with whichhe made Israelto sin."
He didevilin the sightof the LORD,and walkedin the wayof his fatherand in his sinwhichhe made Israelsin.
[and] becauseof the sinsof Jeroboamwhichhe sinned,and whichhe made Israelsin,because of his provocationwith whichhe provokedthe LORDGodof Israelto anger.
becauseof his sinswhichhe sinned,doingevilin the sightof the LORD,walkingin the wayof Jeroboam,and in his sinwhichhe did,making Israelsin.
and I will makeyour houselike the houseof Jeroboamthe sonof Nebat,and like the houseof Baashathe sonof Ahijah,becauseof the provocationwith whichyou have provoked[Me] to anger,and [because] you have made Israelsin.
"BecauseManassehkingof Judahhas donetheseabominations,having donewickedlymorethanallthe Amoritesdidwho[were] beforehim, and has alsomade Judahsinwith his idols;
He builtaltarsin the houseof the LORD,of whichthe LORDhad said,"In JerusalemI will putMy name."
He also defiledTopheth,whichis in the valleyof the sonof Hinnom,that nomanmight make his sonor his daughterpassthrough the firefor Molech.
Furthermore,the altarthat [was] at Bethel[and] the highplacewhichJeroboamthe sonof Nebat,whomade Israelsin,had made,eventhat altarand the highplacehe brokedown.Then he demolishedits stones, groundthem to dust,and burnedthe Asherah.
Nevertheless,he clungto the sinsof Jeroboamthe sonof Nebat,whichhe made Israelsin;he did not departfrom them.
He made his sonspassthrough the firein the valleyof Ben-hinnom;and he practicedwitchcraft,useddivination,practicedsorceryand dealtwith mediumsand spiritists.He didmuchevilin the sightof the LORD,provokingHim [to anger].
Thus ManassehmisledJudahand the inhabitantsof Jerusalemto domoreevilthanthe nationswhomthe LORDdestroyedbeforethe sonsof Israel.
Furthermore,allthe officialsof the priestsand the peoplewere veryunfaithful[following] allthe abominationsof the nations;and they defiledthe houseof the LORDwhichHe had sanctifiedin Jerusalem.
Then Mosessaidto Aaron,"Whatdid thispeopledoto you, that you have brought[such] greatsinupon them?"
[Who] inflameyourselves among the oaks,Undereveryluxurianttree,Who slaughterthe childrenin the ravines,Underthe cleftsof the crags?
"Then goout to the valleyof Ben-hinnom,whichis by the entranceof the potsherdgate,and proclaimtherethe wordsthat I tellyou,
Allyour lovershave forgottenyou, They do not seekyou; For I have woundedyou with the woundof an enemy,With the punishmentof a cruelone,Becauseyour iniquityis great[And] your sinsare numerous.
Yet I sentyou allMy servantsthe prophets,againand again,saying,"Oh,do not dothisabominablethingwhichI hate."
"For the sonsof Judahhave donethat whichis evilin My sight,"declaresthe LORD,"they have settheir detestablethingsin the housewhichis calledby My name,to defileit.
"They have builtthe highplacesof Topheth,whichis in the valleyof the sonof Hinnom,to burntheir sonsand their daughtersin the fire,whichI did not command,and it did not comeinto My mind.
"For they have committedadultery,and bloodis on their hands.Thus they have committedadulterywith their idolsand evencaused their sons,whomthey boreto Me, to passthrough[the fire] to them as food.
You shall not giveanyof your offspringto offerthem to Molech,norshall you profanethe nameof your God;I am the LORD.
YOU ALSOTOOKALONG THE TABERNACLEOF MOLOCHAND THE STAROF THE GODROMPHA,THE IMAGESWHICHYOU MADETO WORSHIP.I ALSOWILL REMOVEYOU BEYONDBABYLON.'
"You shall not behavethustoward the LORDyour God,for everyabominableactwhichthe LORDhatesthey have donefor their gods;for they evenburntheir sonsand daughtersin the fireto their gods.
"There shall not be foundamong you anyone who makes his sonor his daughterpassthrough the fire,one who usesdivination,one who practiceswitchcraft,or one who interpretsomens,or a sorcerer,
[then] her formerhusbandwhosenther awayis not allowedto takeher againto be his wife,sinceshe has been defiled;for that is an abominationbeforethe LORD,and you shall not bringsinon the landwhichthe LORDyour Godgivesyou as an inheritance.
