not like the covenantwhichI madewith their fathersin the dayI tookthem by the handto bringthem out of the landof Egypt,My covenantwhichthey broke,although I was a husbandto them," declaresthe LORD.
Therewas nothingin the arkexceptthe twotabletsof stonewhichMosesputthereat Horeb,wherethe LORDmadea covenant with the sonsof Israel,when they cameout of the landof Egypt.
Nevertheless I am continuallywith You; You have takenholdof my righthand.
For their heartwas not steadfasttowardHim, Norwere they faithfulin His covenant.
Nowthen, ifyou will indeedobeyMy voiceand keepMy covenant,then you shall be My own possessionamongallthe peoples,for allthe earthis Mine;
"They have quicklyturnedasidefrom the waywhichI commandedthem. They have madefor themselves a moltencalf,and have worshipedit and have sacrificedto it and said,Thisis your god,O Israel,whobroughtyou up from the landof Egypt!'"
"Whois thiscomingup from the wildernessLeaningon her beloved?""Beneaththe appletreeI awakenedyou; Thereyour motherwas in laborwith you, Thereshe was in labor[and] gaveyou birth.
The earthis also pollutedby its inhabitants,for they transgressedlaws,violatedstatutes,brokethe everlastingcovenant.
"For I am the LORDyour God,who upholdsyour righthand,Who saysto you, 'Do not fear,I will helpyou.'
"For your husbandis your Maker,Whose nameis the LORDof hosts;And your Redeemeris the HolyOneof Israel,Who is calledthe Godof allthe earth.
and sayto them, 'Thussaysthe LORD,the Godof Israel,"Cursedis the manwhodoes not heedthe wordsof thiscovenant
whichI commandedyour forefathersin the daythat I broughtthem out of the landof Egypt,from the ironfurnace,saying,Listento My voice,and doaccording to allwhichI commandyou; so you shall be My people,and I will be your God,'
"Goand proclaimin the earsof Jerusalem,saying,'Thussaysthe LORD,"I rememberconcerning you the devotionof your youth,The loveof your betrothals,Your followingafterMe in the wilderness,Through a landnot sown.
"Then they will answer,'Becausethey forsookthe covenantof the LORDtheir Godand boweddownto othergodsand servedthem.'"
Return,O faithlesssons,'declaresthe LORD;For I am a masterto you, And I will takeyou onefrom a cityand twofrom a family,And I will bringyou to Zion.'
"At that time,"declaresthe LORD,"I will be the Godof allthe familiesof Israel,and they shall be My people."
"Thussaysthe LORDGodof Israel,I madea covenantwith your forefathersin the daythat I broughtthem out of the landof Egypt,from the houseof bondage,saying,
"At the endof sevenyearseachof you shall setfreehis Hebrewbrotherwhohas been soldto you and has servedyou sixyears,you shall sendhim out freefrom you; but your forefathersdid not obeyMe or inclinetheir earto Me.
"Then I passedby you and sawyou, and behold,you were at the timefor love;so I spreadMy skirtoveryou and coveredyour nakedness.I also sworeto you and enteredinto a covenantwith you so that you becameMine," declaresthe LordGOD.
"I will make you passunderthe rod,and I will bringyou into the bondof the covenant;
"Their nameswere Oholahthe elderand Oholibahher sister.And they becameMine, and they boresonsand daughters.And [as for] their names,Samariais Oholahand Jerusalemis Oholibah.
WhenIsrael[was] a youthI lovedhim, And out of EgyptI calledMy son.
"Contendwith your mother,contend,For she is not my wife,and I am not her husband;And let her putawayher harlotryfrom her faceAnd her adulteryfrom betweenher breasts,
Then the LORDsaidto me, "Goagain,lovea woman[who] is lovedby [her] husband,yet an adulteress,even as the LORDlovesthe sonsof Israel,though they turnto othergodsand loveraisincakes."
if,instead, you rejectMy statutes,and ifyour soulabhorsMy ordinancesso as not to carryout allMy commandments,[and] so breakMy covenant,
Takingthe blind manby the hand,He broughthim out of the village;and after spittingon his eyesand layingHis handson him, He askedhim, "Do you seeanything?"
"He who hasthe brideis the bridegroom;but the friendof the bridegroom,who standsand hearshim, rejoicesgreatlybecauseof the bridegroom'svoice.Sothisjoyof minehas been made full.
The commandertookhim by the handand stepping aside,[began] to inquireof him privately,"Whatis it that you haveto reportto me?"
For I am jealousfor you with a godlyjealousy;for I betrothedyou to onehusband,so that to ChristI might presentyou [as] a purevirgin.
and in the wildernesswhereyou sawhowthe LORDyour Godcarriedyou, justas a mancarrieshis son,in allthe waywhichyou have walkeduntilyou cameto thisplace.'
Theseare the wordsof the covenantwhichthe LORDcommandedMosesto makewith the sonsof Israelin the landof Moab,besidesthe covenantwhichHe had madewith them at Horeb.
"Then the LORDwill singlehim out for adversityfrom allthe tribesof Israel,according to allthe cursesof the covenantwhich are writtenin thisbookof the law.
"Allthe nationswill say,Whyhas the LORDdonethusto thisland?Whythisgreatoutburstof anger?'
The LORDsaidto Moses,"Behold,you are about to liedownwith your fathers;and thispeoplewill ariseand playthe harlotwith the strangegodsof the land,into the midstof whichthey are going,and will forsakeMe and breakMy covenantwhichI have madewith them.
"For when I bringthem into the landflowingwith milkand honey,whichI sworeto their fathers,and they have eatenand are satisfiedand becomeprosperous,then they will turnto othergodsand servethem, and spurnMe and breakMy covenant.
"The LORDour Godmadea covenantwith us at Horeb.
"The LORDdid not makethiscovenantwith our fathers,but with us, [with] allthoseof us aliveheretoday.
NOT LIKETHE COVENANTWHICHI MADEWITH THEIR FATHERSON THE DAYWHEN I TOOKTHEM BY THE HANDTO LEADTHEM OUT OF THE LANDOF EGYPT;FOR THEY DID NOT CONTINUEIN MY COVENANT,AND I DID NOT CAREFOR THEM, SAYSTHE LORD.
