Then the LORDsaidto me, "The prophetsare prophesyingfalsehoodin My name.I have neithersentthem norcommandedthem norspokento them; they are prophesyingto you a false vision,divination,futilityand the deceptionof their own minds.
His watchmenare blind,Allof them knownothing.Allof them are mutedogsunableto bark,Dreamerslyingdown,who loveto slumber;
The headis the elderand honorableman, And the prophetwho teachesfalsehoodis the tail.
And you, Pashhur,and allwho livein your housewill gointo captivity;and you will enterBabylon,and thereyou will dieand thereyou will be buried,you and allyour friendsto whomyou have falselyprophesied.'"
Hananiahspokein the presenceof allthe people,saying,"Thussaysthe LORD,'Evensowill I breakwithintwofullyearsthe yokeof Nebuchadnezzarkingof Babylonfrom the neckof allthe nations.'"Then the prophetJeremiahwenthis way.
"Goand speakto Hananiah,saying,'Thussaysthe LORD,"You have brokenthe yokesof wood,but you have madeinsteadof them yokesof iron."
Then Jeremiahthe prophetsaidto Hananiahthe prophet,"Listennow,Hananiah,the LORDhas not sentyou, and you have made thispeopletrustin a lie.
"Thussaysthe LORDof hosts,the Godof Israel,concerningAhabthe sonof Kolaiahand concerningZedekiahthe sonof Maaseiah,who are prophesyingto you falselyin My name,'Behold,I will deliverthem into the handof Nebuchadnezzarkingof Babylon,and he will slaythem before your eyes.
"Sendto allthe exiles,saying,'Thussaysthe LORDconcerningShemaiahthe Nehelamite,"BecauseShemaiahhas prophesiedto you, although I did not sendhim, and he has made you trustin a lie,"
"Wherethen are your prophetswhoprophesiedto you, saying,The kingof Babylonwill not comeagainstyou or againstthisland'?
The prophetsprophesyfalsely,And the priestsruleon their [own] authority;And My peopleloveit so!But whatwill you doat the endof it?
"ThereforeI will givetheir wivesto others,Their fieldsto newowners;Becausefrom the leasteven to the greatestEveryoneis greedyfor gain;From the propheteven to the priestEveryonepracticesdeceit.
"They healthe brokennessof the daughterof My peoplesuperficially,Saying,'Peace,peace,'But thereis nopeace.
Your prophetshave seenfor you false and foolish[visions]; And they have not exposedyour iniquitySo as to restoreyou from captivity,But they have seenfor you false and misleadingoracles.
Her gateshave sunkinto the ground,He has destroyedand brokenher bars.Her kingand her princesare among the nations;The lawis nomore.Also,her prophetsfindNovisionfrom the LORD.
"For there will nolongerbe anyfalse~visionor flatteringdivinationwithinthe houseof Israel.
"Sonof man,prophesyagainstthe prophetsof Israelwho prophesy,and sayto those who prophesyfrom their own inspiration,Listento the wordof the LORD!
therefore,you women will nolongerseefalse~visionsor practicedivination,and I will deliverMy peopleout of your hand.Thus you will knowthat I am the LORD."
while they seefor you false visions,while they divineliesfor you-- to placeyou on the necksof the wickedwhoare slain,whosedayhas come,in the timeof the punishmentof the end.
Her leaderspronouncejudgmentfor a bribe,Her priestsinstructfor a priceAnd her prophetsdivinefor money.Yet they leanon the LORDsaying,"Is not the LORDin our midst?Calamitywill not comeupon us."
For the teraphimspeakiniquity,And the divinersseelyingvisionsAnd tellfalse~dreams;They comfortin vain.Therefore[the people] wanderlikesheep,They are afflicted,becausethereis noshepherd.
"And ifanyonestillprophesies,then his fatherand motherwho gavebirthto him will sayto him, 'You shall not live,for you have spokenfalselyin the nameof the LORD;and his fatherand motherwho gavebirthto him will piercehim throughwhen he prophesies.
But the prophetwhospeaksa wordpresumptuouslyin My namewhichI have not commandedhim to speak,or whichhe speaksin the nameof othergods,that prophetshall die.'
by meansof the hypocrisyof liarssearedin their ownconscienceas with a branding iron,
Beloved,do not believeeveryspirit,but testthe spiritsto see whetherthey are from God,becausemanyfalse prophetshave goneout into the world.
