"But nowlisten,O Jacob,My servant,And Israel,whom I have chosen:
"I will establishMy covenantbetweenMe and you and your descendantsafteryou throughout their generationsfor an everlastingcovenant,to be Godto you and to your descendantsafteryou.
O seedof Abraham,His servant,O sonsof Jacob,His chosenones!
Even a heritageto IsraelHis servant,For His lovingkindnessis everlasting.
Whenthe LORDwill havecompassionon Jacoband againchooseIsrael,and settlethem in their own land,then strangerswill jointhem and attachthemselves to the houseof Jacob.
"But you, Israel,My servant,JacobwhomI have chosen,Descendantof AbrahamMy friend,
You whomI have takenfrom the endsof the earth,And calledfrom its remotestpartsAnd saidto you, 'You are My servant,I have chosenyou and not rejectedyou.
Whoamong you will giveearto this?Who will giveheedand listenhereafter?
But now,thussaysthe LORD,your Creator,O Jacob,And He who formedyou, O Israel,"Do not fear,for I have redeemedyou; I have calledyou by name;you are Mine!
"Rememberthesethings,O Jacob,And Israel,for you are My servant;I have formedyou, you are My servant,O Israel,you will not be forgottenby Me.
"For the sakeof JacobMy servant,And IsraelMy chosen[one], I have also calledyou by your name;I have givenyou a titleof honorThough you have not knownMe.
"Listento Me, O Jacob,even Israelwhom I called;I am He, I am the first,I am alsothe last.
"Inclineyour earand cometo Me. Listen,that you may live;And I will makean everlastingcovenantwith you, [According to] the faithfulmerciesshown to David.
Fearnot, O JacobMy servant,'declaresthe LORD,'And do not be dismayed,O Israel;For behold,I will saveyou from afarAnd your offspringfrom the landof their captivity.And Jacobwill returnand will be quietand at ease,And noonewill makehim afraid.
"A lionhas goneup from his thicket,And a destroyerof nationshas setout; He has goneout from his placeTo makeyour landa waste.Your citieswill be ruinsWithoutinhabitant.
"O Jerusalem,Jerusalem,[the city] that killsthe prophetsand stonesthosesentto her! How oftenI wantedto gatheryour childrentogether,justas a hen[gathers] her broodunderher wings,and you wouldnot [have it]!
