Surelyyou will be ashamedof the oakswhichyou have desired,And you will be embarrassedat the gardenswhichyou have chosen.
And you will defileyour gravenimagesoverlaidwith silver,and your moltenimagesplatedwith gold.You will scatterthem as an impurething,[and] sayto them, "Be gone!"
For in that dayeverymanwill castawayhis silveridolsand his goldidols,whichyour sinful handshave madefor you as a sin.
They will be turnedback[and] be utterlyputto shame,Who trustin idols,Who sayto moltenimages,"You are our gods."
They will be putto shameand evenhumiliated,allof them; The manufacturersof idolswill goaway togetherin humiliation.
[Who] inflameyourselves among the oaks,Undereveryluxurianttree,Who slaughterthe childrenin the ravines,Underthe cleftsof the crags?
A peoplewho continuallyprovokeMe to My face,Offeringsacrificesin gardensand burningincenseon bricks;
"Those who sanctifyand purifythemselves [to go] to the gardens,Followingonein the center,Who eatswine'sflesh,detestablethingsand mice,Will cometo an endaltogether,"declaresthe LORD.
"For longagoI brokeyour yoke[And] toreoffyour bonds;But you said,'I will not serve!'For on everyhighhillAnd undereverygreentreeYou have laindownas a harlot.
Then the LORDsaidto me in the daysof Josiahthe king,"Have you seenwhatfaithlessIsraeldid?She wentup on everyhighhilland undereverygreentree,and she was a harlotthere.
so that you may rememberand be ashamedand neveropenyour mouthanymorebecauseof your humiliation,when I have forgivenyou for allthat you have done,"the LordGODdeclares.
"Then you will rememberyour evilwaysand your deedsthat were not good,and you will loatheyourselves in your own sightfor your iniquitiesand your abominations.
"Then you will knowthat I am the LORD,when their slainare amongtheir idolsaroundtheir altars,on everyhighhill,on allthe topsof the mountains,undereverygreentreeand undereveryleafyoak--the placeswherethey offeredsoothingaromato alltheir idols.
"Assyriawill not saveus, We will not rideon horses;Norwill we sayagain,Our god,'To the workof our hands;For in You the orphanfindsmercy."
O Ephraim,whatmorehave I to do with idols?It is I who answerand lookafter you. I am like a luxuriantcypress;From Me comesyour fruit.
They offersacrificeson the topsof the mountainsAnd burnincenseon the hills,Underoak,poplarand terebinth,Becausetheir shadeis pleasant.Thereforeyour daughtersplaythe harlotAnd your bridescommitadultery.
The windwrapsthem in its wings,And they will be ashamedbecauseof their sacrifices.
Thereforewhatbenefitwere you thenderivingfrom the things of whichyou are nowashamed?For the outcomeof those thingsis death.
