When Ephraimsawhis sickness,And Judahhis wound,Then Ephraimwentto AssyriaAnd sentto KingJareb.But he is unableto healyou, Or to cureyou of your wound.
Pul,kingof Assyria,cameagainstthe land,and MenahemgavePula thousandtalentsof silverso that his handmight be with him to strengthenthe kingdomunder his rule.
In the daysof Pekahkingof Israel,Tiglath-pileserkingof Assyriacameand capturedIjonand Abel-beth-maacahand Janoahand Kedeshand Hazorand Gileadand Galilee,allthe landof Naphtali;and he carriedthem captiveto Assyria.
So Ahazsentmessengersto Tiglath-pileserkingof Assyria,saying,"I am your servantand your son;comeup and deliverme from the handof the kingof Aramand from the handof the kingof Israel,who are risingup againstme."
He will proteston that day,saying,"I will not be [your] healer,For in my housethereis neitherbreadnorcloak;You should not appointme rulerof the people."
"For thussaysthe LORD,'Your woundis incurableAnd your injuryis serious.
"Oholahplayedthe harlotwhileshe was Mine;and she lustedafterher lovers,afterthe Assyrians,[her] neighbors,
The thing itselfwill be carriedto AssyriaAs tributeto KingJareb;Ephraimwill be seizedwith shameAnd Israelwill be ashamedof its own counsel.
Ephraimfeedson wind,And pursuesthe eastwindcontinually;He multipliesliesand violence.Moreover, he makesa covenantwith Assyria,And oilis carriedto Egypt.
"Assyriawill not saveus, We will not rideon horses;Norwill we sayagain,Our god,'To the workof our hands;For in You the orphanfindsmercy."
"She will pursueher lovers,but she will not overtakethem; And she will seekthem, but will not find[them]. Then she will say,I will gobackto my firsthusband,For it was betterfor me thenthannow!'
So Ephraimhas becomelike a sillydove,withoutsense;They callto Egypt,they goto Assyria.
For they have goneup to Assyria,[Like] a wilddonkeyall alone;Ephraimhas hiredlovers.
For her woundis incurable,For it has cometo Judah;It has reachedthe gateof my people,[Even] to Jerusalem.
