Allthesediedin faith,withoutreceivingthe promises,but having seenthem and having welcomedthem from a distance,and having confessedthat they were strangersand exileson the earth.
And Abrahamsojournedin the landof the Philistinesfor manydays.
"I am a strangerand a sojourneramongyou; giveme a burialsiteamongyou that I may burymy deadout of my sight."
Abrahambreathedhis lastand diedin a ripeoldage,an oldmanand satisfied[with life]; and he was gatheredto his people.
So Jacobsaidto Pharaoh,"The yearsof my sojourningare one hundredand thirty;fewand unpleasanthave beenthe yearsof my life,norhave they attainedthe yearsthat my fatherslivedduring the daysof their sojourning."
Then Israelsaidto Joseph,"Behold,I am about to die,but Godwill be with you, and bringyou backto the landof your fathers.
"The sceptershall not departfrom Judah,Northe ruler'sstafffrom betweenhis feet,UntilShilohcomes,And to him [shall be] the obedienceof the peoples.
"For Your salvationI wait,O LORD.
Alltheseare the twelvetribesof Israel,and thisis whattheir fathersaidto them when he blessedthem. He blessedthem, everyonewith the blessingappropriate to him.
When Jacobfinishedcharginghis sons,he drewhis feetinto the bedand breathedhis last,and was gatheredto his people.
Josephsaidto his brothers,"I am about to die,but Godwill surelytakecareof you and bringyou up from thislandto the landwhichHe promisedon oathto Abraham,to Isaacand to Jacob."
"As for me, I knowthat my Redeemerlives,And at the lastHe will takeHis standon the earth.
I am a strangerin the earth;Do not hideYour commandmentsfrom me.
"Hearmy prayer,O LORD,and giveearto my cry;Do not be silentat my tears;For I am a strangerwith You, A sojournerlike allmy fathers.
Then she gavebirthto a son,and he namedhim Gershom,for he said,"I have beena sojournerin a foreignland."
The land,moreover, shall not be soldpermanently,for the landis Mine; for you are [but] aliensand sojournerswith Me.
But he saidto him, "I will not come,but ratherwill goto my [own] landand relatives."
"I seehim, but not now;I beholdhim, but not near;A starshall comeforth from Jacob,A sceptershall risefrom Israel,And shall crushthroughthe foreheadof Moab,And teardownallthe sonsof Sheth.
"For trulyI sayto you that manyprophetsand righteous mendesiredto seewhatyou see,and did not see[it], and to hearwhatyou hear,and did not hear[it].
These thingsIsaiahsaidbecausehe sawHis glory,and he spokeof Him.
"Your fatherAbrahamrejoicedto seeMy day,and he saw[it] and was glad."
and being fully assuredthat whatGod had promised,He was ablealsoto perform.
For in hopewe have been saved,but hopethat is seenis not hope;for whohopesfor whathe [already] sees?
while we looknot at the things which are seen,but at the things which are not seen;for the things which are seenare temporal,but the things which are not seenare eternal.
Therefore,being alwaysof good courage,and knowingthat while we are at homein the bodywe are absentfrom the Lord--
So thenyou are no longerstrangersand aliens,but you are fellow citizenswith the saints,and are of God'shousehold,
For thosewho saysuch thingsmake it clearthat they are seekinga country of their own.
By faithAbraham,when he was tested,offeredup Isaac,and he who had receivedthe promiseswas offeringup his only begotten[son];
By faithhe leftEgypt,not fearingthe wrathof the king;for he endured,as seeingHim who is unseen.
And allthese,having gained approvalthroughtheir faith,did not receivewhat was promised,

Beloved,I urgeyou as aliensand strangersto abstainfrom fleshlylustswhichwage waragainstthe soul.
We will knowby thisthat we are of the truth,and will assureour heartbeforeHim
