Abel,on his partalsobroughtof the firstlingsof his flockand of their fatportions.And the LORDhadregardfor Abeland for his offering;
By faithAbelofferedto Goda bettersacrificethanCain,throughwhichhe obtainedthe testimonythat he was righteous,Godtestifyingabouthis gifts,and throughfaith, though he is dead,he stillspeaks.
Honorthe LORDfrom your wealthAnd from the firstof allyour produce;
you shall devoteto the LORDthe firstoffspringof everywomb,and the firstoffspringof everybeastthat you own;the malesbelong to the LORD.
"But the firstbornof an oxorthe firstbornof a sheeporthe firstbornof a goat,you shall not redeem;they are holy.You shall sprinkletheir bloodon the altarand shall offerup their fatin smoke[as] an offeringby fire,for a soothingaromato the LORD.
And accordingto the Law,[one may] almost[say], all thingsare cleansedwith blood,and withoutshedding of bloodthere is noforgiveness.
May He rememberallyour mealofferingsAnd findyour burntofferingacceptable!Selah.
Now when Solomonhad finishedpraying,firecamedownfrom heavenand consumedthe burntofferingand the sacrifices,and the gloryof the LORDfilledthe house.
Then Davidbuiltan altarto the LORDthereand offeredburntofferingsand peaceofferings.And he calledto the LORDand He answeredhim with firefrom heavenon the altarof burntoffering.
Then the fireof the LORDfelland consumedthe burntofferingand the woodand the stonesand the dust,and lickedup the waterthat was in the trench.
Then firecameout from beforethe LORDand consumedthe burntofferingand the portionsof faton the altar;and when allthe peoplesaw[it], they shoutedand fellon their faces.
It cameabout when the sunhad set,that it was verydark,and behold,[there appeared] a smokingovenand a flamingtorchwhichpassedbetweenthesepieces.
Allwho dwellon the earthwill worshiphim, [everyone] whosenamehas not been writtenfrom the foundationof the worldin the bookof lifeof the Lambwho has been slain.
Then the angelof the LORDputout the endof the staffthat was in his handand touchedthe meatand the unleavenedbread;and firesprangup from the rockand consumedthe meatand the unleavenedbread.Then the angelof the LORDvanishedfrom his sight.
"Allthe bestof the freshoiland allthe bestof the freshwineand of the grain,the firstfruitsof those whichthey giveto the LORD,I givethem to you.
Firealso cameforthfrom the LORDand consumedthe two hundredand fiftymenwho were offeringthe incense.
"Then you callon the nameof your god,and I will callon the nameof the LORD,and the Godwhoanswersby fire,He is God."And allthe peoplesaid,"That is a goodidea."
So it cameabout in the courseof timethat Cainbroughtan offeringto the LORDof the fruitof the ground.
Then Mosesbecameveryangryand saidto the LORD,"Do not regardtheir offering!I have not takena singledonkeyfrom them, norhave I doneharmto anyof them."
Samuelsaid,"Has the LORDas much delightin burntofferingsand sacrificesAs in obeyingthe voiceof the LORD?Behold,to obeyis betterthansacrifice,[And] to heedthanthe fatof rams.
I have seenthat everylaborand everyskillwhich is doneis [the result of] rivalrybetween a manand his neighbor.Thistoois vanityand strivingafter wind.
